However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Insane. Did you laugh in their faces? Don't pay over MSRP, even if you have to order from farther away or make a road trip out of it :)

Head to Hilltop Kia in Richmond. They'll let you order at MSRP, which is very rare for California. I bought from them last month and the experience was excellent. Call Moe: 510-230-9198

I've heard of some places offering MSRP then adding a bunch of last-minute surprise tacked-on dealer charges (scams) like nitrogen in tires, window etching, crazy documentation fees, marketing charges? Anybody come across these practices these days?

Just placed my order at Hilltop Kia in Richmond last week. Sacramento area dealers would not budge on their 5-10k markups.

I've heard nothing but good things about Hilltop, and so far at least the ordering process was a breeze.

We ordered and purchased from Hilltop, was a nice experience. Also, santa rosa kia is at msrp on orders. Check with both on delivery times.

AWESOME GROUP!!!

I just ordered with Hilltop as well. Has anyone completed the purchase of their order? How long did it take? Did everything turn out as expected?

Love my AWD Dark Moss Dune Brown SX P/T from Hilltop Ford/Kia.

For me, 3.5 months from deposit to delivery.

Keep in mind that this happened last year when the line of customers in front of my deposit wasn't as long as it is now, if you put in an order.

If you're patient and can wait for your Telly, talk to your salesperson for a realistic estimate of wait times.

Orders only become real when they get picked up by KFOS.

Until then, your deposit gets you a place in line behind other customers.

Patience is key if you're going this route.

Check my signature for the whole timeline :)

I placed an order with Moe at Hilltop as well. Didn't charge the deposit but my wait time was longer from August til now 7months. Our Wolf Gray SX is coming in next week.

I made it clear when I ordered from our Kia dealership in Cary, NC that I did not want any of their add ons. With delivery scheduled on March 23, I asked them to send me an out the door price yesterday, to make sure there were no add ons. They did try to squeeze in the $299 fee that includes 6 oil changes. I got that removed. So we are paying window sticker price ($50710) + $699 dealer documentation fee (we already knew about this and it's simply not negotiable) + 3% sales tax ($1551) + $239 (registration and tag fees). We will finance a tiny portion in order to get an extra $500 credit (this offer is available through end of March). So a grand total of $52699 out the door. This is a SX AWD with P/N/T and carpeted mats.

Not bad @valdorbeach !! :)

Just curious, are $699 "dealer" "documentation" fees standard in North Carolina?

That seems extremely high, like pure dealer profit padding-the-bill high.

3% Sales tax is good, way better than out here in Taxlifornia.

$239 registration/tag isn't bad.

Besides the hyper-inflated doc fees, at least they didn't try to scam you with the nitrogen-filled tires or window VIN etching or cheap pin-striping or questionable interior/exterior treatments/coatings.

What color is your Telly? Exterior/interior? Photos? :)

Every big name dealership I've ever dealt with has this so-called "dealer documentation fee". The lowest I've seen is about $400. The average is $700. I've seen dealerships as high as $900. You can always negotiate the price of the vehicle, but never the "documentation" fee.

Note that the 3% sales tax is cheap, but we pay property taxes on each vehicle we own, every year, starting the next year after purchase. That will probably run me $500-$600 the first year.

They did try to sell me the nitrogen filled tires, mud flaps, and window tinting. I explicitly said absolutely not to each of them. I was worried they would throw it back in just prior to vehicle delivery, and give me no choice. That is why I send them a request yesterday to give me the out the door itemized prices for everything.

I don't have pictures yet. But it is the Glacial White Pearl with Nightfall, Prestige, and Towing, with a Gray interior. I did not want carpet mats ($210), and I thought that was made clear on the initial order. But the window sticker that was confirmed as my truck through this forum shows that it does come with the carpet mats. Not a big deal. I suspect it is mandatory??

Dealer Doc fees ARE legit, but only to about $300. If they go beyond that, they are simply squeezing you for profit, and lots of it. It was once a pretty clean pass-through but now dealers are jacking in more and more to that cost and it is ridiculous. Once you get to that point, simply let them know you're not paying anything over $XXX. I wouldn't pay over $350. And if they balk, then just say, that's fine I know of a few dealers that charge $300 so I'll do that instead...

Right. The west coast market is overheated. What I have noticed in the last month is inventories are starting to stack up. Once dealers carry the car pass 30 days, they must pay interest on that (it's all money via loans). Dealers don't like having to pay interest on vehicles, as it quickly digs into profits. Much like a home builder sitting on a house, not selling it for months, paying 8% interest on their short-term construction loan, eating into any profits left in the house...

Either wait, or shop elsewhere. I found some large dealers in the LA area only $1,500 over sticker ("only" ha!), and in the south/mid-west south if there is such a thing, below sticker. You'll just need to road-trip it, or pay $900 or so to ship it your way.

Hope that helps!

@Debimahler:

How are you liking your new Telly?

Nice and broken in yet?

Have you tried out all the drive modes? Comfort, Sport, Smart, Eco, Snow? Snow + Lock?

I am concerning about driving long distant on hwy speed home after picking up the car. isn it supposed to driven at different speed (using different gears) for breaking in? driving long distant at hwy speed keep the trans at just one gear.

We did not drive 2000 miles Street. We drove around some towns and looked around, we shopped, we ate, we stayed in hotels we drove into the Grand Canyon, we did not just drive to thousand miles straight home for 40 hours!
