• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Turning a Telluride into a Police SUV

Yes. For instance, there are many police departments at the state and local levels that have used foreign motorcycles like BMW and Kawasaki. They're not as common as Harleys but it is done. The NYPD has Toyota Priuses also.

In some ways, the US is vaguely like the EU in how state laws and federal laws relate to each other. In many cases they conflict. According to the Constitution, federal laws are supposed to prevail but it often means going to court. Then there are cities like NY that have home rule and they can do what they want to a fair degree.
We are not ever bound by any laws to buy American. Right now Kia/Hyundai make a much better product than Ford & Chevy so thus the Telluride. If we can build better cars I’ll find a way just as I find a way to “build” better officers. By that I mean hiring officers with integrity, courage and compassion. Hire better, train better and resolve conflicts better with less loss of life. At least that is the road we have attempted to travel down in my tenure here. Always open to better ways and tools to get the job done.

Nice. As I was reading I was thinking it'd be a traffic vehicle with those ghost markings but I'd presume you don't do much traffic at this stage in your career Sir. Haha
Enjoy it, let us know how it does on the trail! I'd imagine it's better than the new exploders. Had one delivered and upon delivery the damn door lock mechanism broke!! 11 miles on the thing. They took it back and returned it after repairs. Nuts

We had bought some Exploders and most of us HATED them. So nice to see that they are going back to Tahoes....

I'm curious to see how they are doing in a couple of years of road work when you get one or two put into the fleet. No disrespect, but Chief vehicles don't get rode hard and put up wet <G>...

regards

Scott

Looks very nice. Also the Telly is manufactured in Georgia. Providing jobs in the US.

Typically true but in a town where only one officer is on duty at a time, most of my 40 hours is spent covering calls alone Thus it will get normal patrol use.

But you are correct, time will tell.

Please provide a full itemized list of costs for this project including the vehicle itself and labor. I am interested to see.

Nice photos of the vehicle. I hope it works out well for you. I would take this over an Explorer any day of the week. Looking at your light set up, looks nice. One thing I found with low profile lighting (had one as a Tahoe) was that placing a couple of lights on the hood line just before the windshield helped put light where more cars could see it. When close, the grill lights couldn't be seen, and sometimes the higher up inner edge lights for some cars were too high. I had three levels of light for not much money and it worked very well for people being able to see you. Didn't see what you had in side windows for lighting for when you cant the vehicle or just clear the intersections... Doing anything for scene lighting or takedowns?

I like the idea of the hood lights! (next build). Takedowns up top from inside, grill and fog all can do steady white and even in daylight sometimes are more than enough. Alley white lights also on both mirrors work well. Build will be similar to my current TahoeFE2B909A-7481-482B-99E8-6E10B8E0C185.webp

Very nice looking Tahoe... I used the lights that go under the mirrors so that they can be seen from front, side and back, LOVED those. Was going to post some photos of my old Tahoe but looks like the only ones I could find were old ones before the finished product. <sigh> Run down in the front, two mini bars in grill, one single on left and right side of grill. One each mini on hood by windshield. Inner Edge type in windshield. Wig Wag headlights, daytime running lights were Cannons so white for driving lights, red on one side and blue on the other for emergency lights. Turn signals were also cannons, amber for turn signals and red on one side and blue on the other for emergency lights. Under mirrors were the under mirror pucks red on one side blue on the other. Under steps were three minnies, alternating red and blue. Back side windows, a quad mounted up high red and blue, on bottom red and blue singles. Back had a traffic director and a multitude of lights <G>. Also had combination of old strobes and leds in tail lights, back up lights etc.... It lit up like the mother ship from Close Encounters...

Can you please provide the costs of this project?

Even though I hate grey paint, this looks awesome with those wheels. Well done!

Looks different in each lighting condition. Vinyl wrap on the chrome really helped!
