CarPlay lagging

Is anyone having trouble with CarPlay lagging? The display is about 20 seconds behind my phone. Phone calls, texts and google maps are all delayed. I’ve tried a new usb cable and also reconnecting to CarPlay by “forgetting” the vehicle and repairing. Any thoughts on how to resolve the issue?

Mine is usually good, but I occasionally see lag like that when my phone is extremely busy (using GPS and streaming audio simultaneously, etc.). Typically I notice the phone feels very hot at the time of lag and if I cool it down by placing it in front of the air vent for a few minutes, performance returns to normal. That said, in my experience, it is only an occasional issue and I believe it is temperature related. I don't know if your situation might be similar.

What model iPhone are you using? Try to see if you can replicate the issue with a newer iPhone 13 or 14. Could be a old, slower phone or too many apps running in the background. I have zero lag using an iPhone 12 Pro with Carplay over USB connection. When using Carlinkit wireless CarPlay, it will lag when I try to use Waze or Google Maps. Apple maps works perfect.

It’s an iPhone 13. Updated to most recent iOS. This started a few weeks ago. Never had any trouble before this

I am. My google maps is delayed maybe 5-10 seconds and often times there is a large lag switching between podcasts and back to maps.

I’m using a USB cord and iPhone 14Pro. Noticed it after this latest update.

Hmm. I read something on Reddit about using split screen on the display (2/3 CarPlay and 1/3 Kia). Otherwise I’m at a loss

I was just going to say this. I’ve noticed this lately when Google Maps is running. After switching to Apple Maps it’s been fine.

Ironically, I had this issue earlier this summer with Waze. I guess whatever Google did with Waze they’ve done to their own app.

Yes, also been experiencing for at least a week. I did all the same troubleshooting. The only “resolution” is to not use google maps. Apple Maps works fine with no lag.

Made an account to post - I have a stinger and have the same issue. It’s extremely annoying. I made sure that the infotainment is up to date, iPhone 13pro max is on 16.1.1. This also just started happening to me in the last few weeks, it was particularly bad on a 45 minute trip where I didn’t realize it had gotten so far behind that I missed an exit. Maps was showing that I was a solid mile behind where I was.

Possible conspiracy theory: Apple is intentionally sabotaging performance of Google Maps and Waze on their devices in order to sway iPhone users to use the native Maps app.

I had the same issue while using Waze and Amazon Music at the same time on my road trip back from picking up my Telluride. Since then I haven't noticed it, but I haven't really used Waze and Amazon Music at the same time since then.
This would be on an iPhone 13 with iOS 16.1.1.

Just ran into this issue driving from Texas to Ohio last week. It didn’t happen all the time but there were random times where Waze and google maps didn’t keep up but Apple Maps ran fine. Don’t have an issue using Apple Maps instead of google maps but I want Waze for the cop detection. All but 1 cop was alerted on Waze and the one that wasn’t was super hidden so it’s an important feature for me.

So annoying. Had the same issue also with Spotify lagging 14 seconds. Updated software. Restarted phone. New cord with higher quality. No change. So it sounds like a CarPlay issue. Damn
