• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I have a 2021 SX AWD. Really enjoying it, but have concern on mileage. I just did a 315 Mile highway trip. Comfort Mode and averaged 22mpg.
Average speed 80mph on cruise.
I think it's a great vehicle but surprised at how small the tank is.

Any suggestions for better mileage?

My guess would be your average speed having the biggest impact on your mpg. Possibly your drive mode (comfort vs eco)

Just finished a road trip from Texas to Colorado in our ‘22 EX AWD. First half of the trip was in comfort mode and averaged between 20-21mpg. Average speed was 80mph. Dealt with strong winds and with new AT tires that impacted mileage.

Second half of the trip was in eco mode and averaged 25-26 mpg going on average 70mph. This was while gaining elevation in Colorado.

Anecdotal at best but just my two cents

If your average speed was 80 I don’t think you can expect any of the published MPG to apply. I have 8000 miles on mine and average 24 MPG.

Helpful. I've seen a few people say they use Smart Mode for better mileage. What's the concensus?

Wind speed and its direction have a big impact on mpg as well as speed and the Telluride driving mode. Also, hilly vs. flat and accelerating frequently when passing vs. keeping the speed the same. 22 mpg does not seem unusual. If you click on my Fuelly footer below, you can check out my mpg with more than 15,000 miles so far. A fair amount of the mileage (perhaps 25%) of my driving is on cruise at 87-90 mph on I90 in South Dakota and Montana and some high speeds also in Texas.

I consistently get 25-27 (highway only) on my SX AWD. This is based on round trip. Driving at 70 will definitely gets better gas mileage than 80. My tire pressure is set at 37 cold with Comfort mode.

I guess my lead foot doesn't help...lol.
Thanks!

Welcome. Moving this discussion out of the non-Telluride area.

Speed makes a big difference. My normal SoCal highway non heavy traffic drive at 75-80+ mph gives me 24-25 mpg. Due to rain last month, my average speed was about 65 mph and I was able to get 29-30 mpg on a few trips. Usually tough to drive 65 mph in dry weather here.

I live in the Atlanta area. Highways here are like the autobahn. Very challenging to do just 65. That's helpful feedback. I hope they come out with a Telly hybrid. Thanks!

That is amazing... I haven't gotten anywhere close to that.

Around town I average about 20-21. On a 300 mile trip last week, mostly ~60mph, got about 24. That is the highest ever. On the return trip, a bit more traffic and stopping...about 22. I have not gotten above 24 even on just strictly highway trips.

I really hope they come out with a hybrid Telluride also. I had a Honda Insight just before my Telluride, and it was amazing technology. The EPA was 49 mpg highway/55 mpg city. I often got 60+ mpg in the city. It's a different driving experience. There are tricks to getting the most out of the regenerative breaking, coasting, etc. But even so, my Insight was only about a 20% increase over a ICE Honda Civic as far as gas mileage. If that same 20% would apply to the Telluride, then we are talking instead of the current 20 city/26 highway, one would get 24 city and about 31 highway. I would trade in my current Telluride in a heartbeat for this as long as it didn't effect towing capacity (5,000 lbs),

On my last return trip from CO, I got 27+ mpg on the last 418 miles where the terrain was relatively flat at 70-75 mph. Around town driving is 20 mpg. Usually drive in eco mode.

They do have a rather small gas tank. I almost didn't order one because it was 6 gallons less than my current Durango. Wish the engineers would have put a bigger tank on it.

That’s one of the things I noticed as well the first time I filled up. I’ve been only able to fill up 17 gallons or might be a little less. Wish the tank was a little bigger too.
