help! pls :) ... alarm goes off when I lock the door!

yes it's a scorcher here in the PNW - I was on the ferry and locked my car to go on deck. the alarm went off. is this typical in hot weather? if so that is a total drag as I road trip and need to lock my car at times. Also does the alarm set automatically when you lock the car? I don't even know how to set the alarm

As long as you lock the car with the lock button on the key fob or the button on the outside of the door, you are arming your alarm system.

Your issue was likely because of the rear occupant alert, the number one reason for “phantom alarms” on these vehicles. If anything was moving in the backseat, or if you left your windows open and air was blowing past the ultrasonic sensors, that will set it off. You probably want to just turn off the rear occupant alert.

thank you, I'd understand that on the ferry boat, but it did it when I was parked also and the day was stifling with no air blowing. how do I turn off the rear occupant alert?

is there any other way to lock the car that doesn't set off the alarm? if I go for a hike I want to lock my car but I don't want an alarm going off all day. does the alarm go off after a period of time? thanks for your help!!

If you want to lock the car but don’t want someone trying to break in to set your alarm off, you can lock the car with the inside door lock button. I don’t recommend that. Turning off the ROA will take care of your issue.

Thanks @shawntoneill ! I was wondering if the car came with an alarm system and how it is armed. So, a simple single click of the lock button arms the system.
