• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I have two questions about the 2021 Kia Telluride's Idle Stop & Go (ISG) System:

1. I know the purpose of the system is to conserve fuel, but doesn't the constant starting/stopping of the engine have a detrimental effect on the engine's health? Wouldn't it be better to just have the engine stay on, even if fuel is used?

2. Assuming that I wanted to deactivate the ISG system, I know that I can deactivate it on specific occasions by pressing the ISG off button (button containing the A with the circle around it). But that means I need to press the button every time I enter the vehicle and want to deactivate the system. Is there a way to keep the ISG system off more systematically -- so I don't need to deactivate the system/push the off button every single time I get in the vehicle? For example, can I build such a function into "driver 1" or "driver 2" settings? Something else?

1. They have already thought about potential “detrimental effects” and designed more durable starters and batteries to withstand the repeated starting. This is the way all ICE cars are moving, so you will have a hard time finding a car without it. Until we inevitably only have electric powered cars as the status quo.

2. Nope, no OEM way to keep it off after restarting the engine. An aftermarket module is likely the only way to “program” it this way.

Alternatively, just set the climate control to manual with high fan or let the battery drain a bit with the engine off and ignition on. Either of these conditions will prevent ISG from activating.

Multiple ways to permantely disable ISG are discussed in this thread.....

Part of my morning ritual:

Shower
Brush & floss & FreshBurst Listerine
Shave
Make coffee
Drink coffee (BRCC Silencer Smooth Light Roast from a NFE Mr. Coffee drip machine)
Walk to car
Start car
click the button to turn off ISG
click on the steering wheel heater button
toggle down a click to 3 blue bars: max cooled seats
put phone in the slot in front of the center cup holders, charging port up, screen facing back
flip up the piano black cover
plug USB to Lightning cord into phone
Check windows for frost/condensation
Uncover sunroof
reach back and lower right rear sunshade
lower driver, passenger and right rear windows
take a deep breath
Shift into reverse
Back out.
Shift into drive.
Pull out of the parking area onto the road.
Make sure the dial is in Sport Mode.
Check every direction for traffic.
Gun it.
