Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... We tow a Lance 1685 (16ft) and have done four trips having just returned from a 1700 mile trip trough southern Utah staying at all the national parks and some state parks. We push the weigh limits when we first leave with a full trailer. Our 2021 SX AWD pulls well. The 8 speed tranny finds the sweet spot keeping the engine at 2500-3000. Rarely will you be in 8th gear. We average 12 mpg. Note: lots of hills in Utah and AZ. Rarely did we get below 50 on hills. On flats we could comfortably cruise at 60-65 mph. Returning home Monday we had horrible headwinds so I kept the mph at 55. Difference between 55 and 60 was 2mpg fuel consumption with the wind.
You must have a Weight Distribution Hitch with anti-sway and electronic brake!!!! We got ours installed when we picked up the Lance. We have a Husky Centerline WDH w/AS. They really very work to level out the combined rig. The anti-sway is a must have. You could feel the buffeting winds but also hear the hitch do its thing. WDH are noisy (squawky) in turns in campgrounds, etc. but that's the friction that make them work.
Do research on your camper. There is lots of info on the web. Don't just listen to the camper dealer, they will tell you anything to make a sale. We've had our camper for 9 months and 4 trips and I am still learning stuff. Your camper brand most likely has an owner's forum. They are gold with lots of great practical information.
