Good question. How long a wait compared to the new? Same trim and features? 400 km ain't much.... Those km don't bother me at all.Would you buy a tester with 400 km over ordering a new one for the same price?
To put that into context, I prob put 400 km on in the first week. That averages to 20,000 km per year. So that's not a concern for me.Would you buy a tester with 400 km over ordering a new one for the same price?
400 km is about 250 miles. I would be surprised if *everyone* who tried the car violated general break-in recommendations.First 600 miles is break in for the engine; I wonder how hard some testers got into the engine![]()
Yes. Same.Good question. How long a wait compared to the new? Same trim and features? 400 km ain't much.... Those km don't bother me at all.
Well, you have to thoroughly test the tester. The kms aren't much at all. My car is quiet, but that's pretty subjective. Quieter than my Honda was. Now a bit less quiet with snow tires on.Yes. Same.
I am kinda regretting ordering over buying the tester.
Although I noticed some tire/ road noise that I thought was too much for a car that has a reputation of being very quiet.
I was told 2 months wait time but could be longer.
I thought 2 months wouldn’t be a big deal as I don’t really have any trips planned until summer.Personally, I would wait the 2 months. Testers are usually driven short distances at who knows what rpm/acceleration. That can't be good for a brand new engine. And if the tester spent anytime in the showroom, there will be unknown wear on the interior plus the battery probably has been drained few times. For the same price as new, heck no. I would hesitate even if the tester came with a decent discount over new.
I don’t know about states but up here the sales person doesn’t come along for the test drive due to COVID.I thought 2 months wouldn’t be a big deal as I don’t really have any trips planned until summer.
but I have been reading the wait times threads - average wait seems to be around 4 months.
One more reason you should stay away from that tester than. Who knows how hard that car was driven without a sales person.I don’t know about states but up here the sales person doesn’t come along for the test drive due to COVID.
when I asked him how long I had he said we are open till 5.
I know I did!400 km is about 250 miles. I would be surprised if *everyone* who tried the car violated general break-in recommendations.
I had to throw in my 2 cents just to offer the opposite opinion.I'm obviously an outlier on a forum like this... I've bought pretty much only new cars in my life and haven't thought much about the break in period. I mean, I drive carefully, but that's about it. If I have to break hard to avoid hitting someone, I break hard and don't think any more about it. I don't think new cars are *that* delicate.
People here would counsel picking up a used Telly at a great price...without any thought about whether the break in period was just right.
You gotta do whatever feels comfortable for you. It matters whether the car looks and feels right to you. I'm doubtful that some test driver with a heavy foot has wrecked the thing.
Me and Lith are at opposite ends here! Lol. You're gonna get thoughts across the whole spectrum.
It's good to get all the POVs! Debate is good. Since this car is actually new, despite kms, I'm a heck ya. Though if OP is happy to wait, more power to them.I had to throw in my 2 cents just to offer the opposite opinion. There is argument to have in regards to properly breaking in a new car but that was not my point. Normally 1-3 yo used cars are a good value(including demos) due to price discount given. Demo/Testers are same as used car to me and should come with a discount. Since @User99 said same price as new, I am a firm heck no.
I was having second thoughts after reviewing OP experience in this forum. It's good to get all the POVs! Debate is good. Since this car is actually new, despite kms, I'm a heck ya. Though if OP is happy to wait, more power to them.
When I bought my Telly, I didn't even know they were so hard to get. I looked at the inventory of all the dealers within about 100 km of me and called up anyone who had a car I wanted. There weren't a lot around, but there were some. Then I drove to the dealer and bought a car from the lot. I don't think I could bear to wait as long as others have.I was having second thoughts after reviewing OP experience in this forum.
I am willing to wait two months , but after reading some of the threads, it seems it would be 5 months or even more. Dealer suggested the best case scenario probably to get the business. I was also told the $2500 deposit was non-refundable if the vehicle was to be delayed.
