If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... So first things first. Have about 4k miles on my Telly now. LOVE IT. Best car so far.

When driving on the freeway, when I hit cruise control, a green icon resembling that of a steering wheel comes on, and it steers the car and keeps it in its lane including when the road/lane curves. The lane keep assist is NOT on at this point. If I activate the lane keep assist (that's the green icon resembling a car between lanes), I don't see a difference in terms of steering. So my question is, when driving on the freeway using cruise control, is the lane keep assist redundant as its built into the cruise control?

Also, whenever I hit cruise control, when I set the cruise exactly at the posted speed limit, I see the word HDA on my dash, but if I set the speed higher or lower than the posted speed limit, I don't see it. What is HDA and does it not activate when I deviate from the speed limit?

Thanks!

Glad you are enjoying your Telly as much as we all are.

Yes, when SCC is activated, LKA and LFA are essentially redundant. However, when SCC is off then LKA will still try to keep you in your lane with countersteering torque when driving above 40mph and prevent your from veering out of your lane. Unless you are always driving on the highway with SCC, LKA is arguably more frequently utilized.

Lane follow assist is what the green steering wheel icon represents when SCC is enabled. Just means that when the lanes are detected, it will handling steering for you so long as the turn radius isn’t too small and lanes are detectable. Always pay attention though, this is not an autonomous car.

Highway Drive Assist (HDA) does two things uniquely apart from what SCC already does:
  1. If you set your SCC at the current posted speed limit, it will adjust the set speed higher or lower to the new posted speed limits as you travel to different sections of the highway or change highways.
  2. It allows you to resume SCC even from a complete stop without any user input. Whereas SCC without HDA requires you to step on the gas pedal or press OK on the steering wheel to resume from a stop.
Even if you do not drive at speed limit, which most drivers do not, you can still benefit from the HDA stop and go features in rush hour traffic. Keep in mind that HDA must be supported in your region through the UVO navigation preloaded map. Also UVO map speed limits may or may not always match the posted speed limits if they have been recently changed.

@Tellthemride thanks for this. Any way to turn OFF the LFA (the green steering icon to center you in your lane) and use adaptive cruise control? I have been trying to find out how to do this as in winter I want adaptive cruise for speed and distance, but NOT to have the car adjust me in the lane when it is icy.

Just turn off by pressing the LKA button on left side below steering wheel. Same button you'd press to turn it on without cruise control.

Hm, if i recall, I turned that off (the lane and car icon), but then when turing on cruise, the steering icon also came on with the cruise icon.

Honestly, though, I’d be more concerned about using cruise control itself in icy conditions than the system making minor steering corrections.

I have lived in midwest weather for 20 years. Cruise is not the problem (sure, not on when conditions are terrible), but it seems slight wheel adjustments on so so roads would be a problem.

I notice that when I'm in cruise control and take my hands off the steering wheel ( I'm keeping my thumb & fore finger looped around the wheel for security, but not touching the wheel) that I don't get a beep and a notice in the dash to put my hands on the wheel like I would if I was just using lane control. I assume this for self drive eventually.

Lane control? The warning for keeping hands on the wheel only comes on when SCC is activated. There is a touch sensor on the steering wheel so as long as it senses your hands or fingers the warning will not display. The warning comes on more frequently when you are not on a HDA supported highway.

When you have smart cruise on and LFA enabled, and the steering wheel is green (meaning it's steering for you), all you need to do is apply intermittent light pressure on the wheel to avoid having it yell at you. Even if you have your hands completely off of the wheel, if it pops up the "keep hands on the wheel" message, applying only the slightest tap of resistance will dismiss it.

If you start to leave your lane during normal driving (cruise not enabled) and don't have sufficient control of the wheel, it will flash that message. Try it: make sure you have lane keep on, then take your hands off the wheel and let the car drift a little. When you get to the edge of the lane, the car will bounce back into the lane and the message will pop up in your display.

Hi, Did you every figure out if it was possible to turn off the lane assist while driving with the cruise control on? Thanks

Post number 7 if you want SCC without LFA.
