3 kids (under 6) in a Telluride?

Hello All - We are shopping for a new SUV and my wife and I both LOVED the Telluride SXP. We have a 6 and a 3 year old and a baby on the way. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and purchase a Telluride? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats! I think you’ll be fine for seating; cargo space may be a small challenge depending on how much baggage you carry for them. I would go for second row captains chair for easier access to the 3rd row

We bit the bullet and did a minivan for that stage (our kids are now a little older). It is easily the best choice once you're at 3+ kids.

It really depends on your lifestyle and other factors though. We always had sports gear, the jogging stroller (those double-wides are HUGE), etc. Throw in the pack-n-play crib for a trip to grandma's and you're maxed before you throw in a cooler and luggage. Captains chairs will make 3rd row access easier but it takes away quite a bit of flexibility for "stuff".

Thanks for the input! My wife refuses to get a minivan lol, even though it seems like the logical choice. We also have a Bernedoodle so captains seats are a must! I think it’s between a Ford Expedition and the Telluride now.

We have two kids and will be having a 3rd in a couple of weeks. Seating should be fine, but as others have mentioned, storage will suffer a bit. I had always planned to get cross bars and may invest in a top storage system. My wife has an Odessey which also helps with more storage space. Minivans are hard to beat with kids, but the Telly will serve us well too...much more room than my Highlander had.

Agreed - it's an awesome people hauler and the cargo space is all relative to your lifestyle and the type of things you do as a family. The Telluride would not have been a practical choice for us with only three kids at those younger ages. We've only had it a couple months and we love it though! Our old Odyssey was basically Bluetooth and power sliding doors...it it was a big tech jump to an SX. Will probably snag a roof cargo box at some point for the longer ski/camping type trips.

Having 4 kids and going through the different car choices, Nothing beats a minivan for small kids. I know, its a classification many dislike. The power sliding doors that open up remotely and allow to park in tight places without large SUV doors hitting opposing cars is one of the best features. On top of that you can have an occupant in every seat and still have loads of room in the back for strollers, luggage, etc. It's simple design.

We are strapped for storage space in our EX-P Telluride when all of us are in the vehicle, but we can get away with folding down half of the third row if we are in a pinch. Our minivan before this was much easier to navigate with "stuff." While we don't use a stroller for much anymore, we've all but given up on bringing the jogging stroller since it doesn't fit in the trunk space with the third row up. Very happy with the Telluride, but a midsize SUV will never match a minivan for convenience and versatility when you have young kids.

I have a soon to be 5 years old, soon to be 3 years old and a 1month baby. It works for us! I put the older kids (forward-facing) in the 3rd row and the infant in the 2nd row. I have an SXP so I have the captain's chairs, but it works perfectly for my family!

Well put! Some can't get the stigma and will do their best to make it work. I would say as soon as your kids are independent getting in and out, don't need strollers or other devices, and are done with the car seats, the SUV is a contender then.

Expedition "Limited" is definitely bigger and has more space. 2nd row captain seats are uncomfortable(like American Airline seats) for adults but if you are going to stick a car seat on it than it won't matter. It has better engine options. I've driven my buddies, his has pretty good pickup for a big SUV, 400HP. Bang n Olfsen system must fake. It doesn't sound good. Maybe avg or below avg.

I have 4 kids with 2 still in car seats. When the two older ones 16 and 7 are getting in, I just move the front forward enough and they get in fine. Of course you won't have that issue with a minivan but I refuse to drive a minivan lol. At the end of the day it's boils down to your choice.

If using a front facing convertible seat in the front, keep on the drivers side captain chair. Move the driver seat forward to make room, then slide the ff child seat captain chair forward to access the 3rd row. Then slide the captain chair back and press the memory seat button to restore drivers seat position.

If using a baby carrier and base, install on either side captains chair. With the baby carrier removed, climb in front of the base on the captain char to access the 3rd row, then have the other adult load the baby carrier onto the base.

I have been successful traveling with both car seat setups with my wife in our SXP. Just make sure the 3rd row is raised up in both scenarios from the trunk, because it can be hard moving cargo around and lift the 3rd row seat once you are already inside the car.

You can always fit at least one kid in the lower cargo area under the cargo floor.
