• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello Telly family,

Finally had a chance to install OEM crossbars this afternoon. Following instructions to torque bolts down at 53 ft lbs. 1 bolt snapped so I called local dealership asking for replacement. Unfortunately kia doesnt sell the bolt separately from crossbar assembly, dealership is calling corporate for a replacement. Does anyone have any info on bolt size just incase kia won't provide replacement bolt? Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer for you, but try taking a good bolt to a local hardware store. There should be a common metric bolt that will fit.

That's the plan if local dealership cant assist me out. It's hard being patient with dealerships!

Have you taken the bolt to the dealer? They may have a non-specific spare one that will fit.

Thanks that's a good idea, I'll contact them tomorrow.

I would match one up from a hardware store unless these are special KIA bolts which I doubt

53 foot pounds is like 635 inch pounds.....gotta be a typo 😂

Sure it was ft pounds not inch pounds?
Yes you are correct 53 lb. In... Either way I set the Torque wrench to 6 N.M, the bolts tightened but continued to spin. Their secure I just wish they capped out once Lb.in or N.M was reached.

I just broke one of my bolts on my OEM crossbar trying to tighten to 53 ft lb. I tightened the other 7 bolts to about 20 ft lb and stopped. I'm going to get a replacement bolt and get it fixed before I use them. I see my error now that the units are different (ft-lb vs in-lb). I'm also going to loosen the other 7 as they are way to tight.
