• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Your hard-earned money. Your best judgements, according to your finances, circumstances, time-frame. Ultimately, your decision.

If $6k, $10k over MSRP doesn't bother you, then please have pay the crazy high ADMs. While you're at it, have dinner with Prince Gavin and his homies at The French Laundry in upscale "up-valley" Yountville, and enjoy $1,500 bottles of wine and $300 soup along with other people from affluent areas around California with a lot more money than sense.

For most people, however, burning ANY money unnecessarily doesn't make sense, and if we all shop around and only reward smart dealerships that value long-term customer loyalty over short-term gains with our hard-earned money, then perhaps certain dealership behavioral patterns can be modified.

The problem with that is, many people do have that much money to burn. Silly Valley for example. To me, $6,000 is a lot of money. For Silly Valley execs, that's merely chump change. So it all depends on where y'all are coming from. They're looking for top-trim XC90s with Night Vision, Audi Q7s and SQ7s and BMWs and FuglySpindleGrillLexuses and the ultra-reliable-never-brokendown Range Rovers, and possibly Bentleys SUVs or Tiger Woods' GV80 pre-crash, and for them, stepping "down" to a lower price point car and then paying a $6-8k premium is nothing.

I prefer patience, careful consideration and smart shopping and being open to multiple options, making careful judgements and doing a rudimentary cost-benefit analysis, long-range demand forecast and trying to use some of what I paid to learn in school, before arriving at final decisions that involve large sums of money, but maybe that's just because I'm a crazy person.

Of course it bothers me. And being time constrained, we decided to pull the plug. Going from an excel sheet comparing 20 different vehicles and visiting several dealerships trying to see the car is not making a decision out of thin air. And I do live in Peninsula, so probably subject to excessive price increases, but we even consulted with an out-of-state dealer. I don't need your salt. I can't believe you take a few minutes to post such a salty response.

@juanirestrepo

That post was not directed at you by the way. Please don't take it personally. The world doesn't revolve around you. If I wanted it directed at you I would have used your username like I just did.

It's a general comment on people overpaying for Tellurides and nothing changing because of dealerships like the ones in the Silly Valley that still get plenty of business from people with more money than sense.

Salt is not my thing buddy. We've all been through a lot these past couple years and I empathize with you regarding the exorbitant prices you must have to pay living on the Peninsula on top of all the other hyper-inflated nonsense we have to pay for in California: 55 cents per gallon gas tax? Property taxes, sales taxes, generally high cost-of-living.

I sincerely hope you get the Telly you want from a dealer that doesn't rip you off.

Have a great rest of your Saturday! :)

I have to agree with DMJ. I refuse to pay over MSRP for a depreciating asset. It's just a car. A nice well recommended car but nevertheless a car. Lots of alternatives. There are a lot of dealers who will sell you a Telluride for MSRP or less. I ordered mine from a dealer in Florida after having talked to every dealer in Indianapolis. I paid MSRP. There is a dealer here in Indiana who sells them for $1200 under MSRP. The down side is there is a long waiting list. I got mine in a little over 2 months delivered to my door with no additional fees. The dealer where I bought mine sells and delivers all over the country. It as a painless process. Unlike a lot of dealers I read about, I was kept up to date on a weekly basis. They ever did all the paperwork to register the vehicle.
I guess my point is, you don't have to be ripped off to get what you want.

Hello all... I am new here and new to Kia (always been a Honda/Toyota guy). I really like the new Telluride, but I am experiencing sticker shock. I have always been a negotiator and have never paid MSRP in my life, much less above MSRP. Is there any sign that things are starting to calm down or is there still no end in site?

I am interested in the SX trim, but I can get a comparably equipped Toyota Highlander for nearly $4000 less than the Kia, so something just doesn't add up for me.

Am I missing some key piece of information?

Thanks in advance

I drove to a Telluride Kia dealership about 50 miles away in the Houston area. I found their inventory on their Website but nothing I liked. I called and was told a new shipment 1 vehicle was arriving that day so I drove down there and the truck was on the lot. As it pulled off truck I couldn’t believe it was a Dark Moss SX with leather 4 chair seating. I test drove it and bought it within the hour at sticker minus $500 veterans credit plus taxes etc. They licensed it for me and I have loved it. That was June 1999. I have lost count of folks coming up to look at it at gas stations, parking lots, etc. I have a terrible back so it was important to get a large comfortable vehicle so I bought quickly- no regrets! My advice is look when ready to buy and don’t worry about how far away it is.

Yes you can definitely get the Highlander cheaper. There are those on this forum who will bad mouth the Highander but I am not one of them. I have a 2006 hybrid that I have never had an issue with. It's simply a choice. I did not look at the new Highlanders so I cannot compare. I will say I have been impressed with my SX. I think it is roomier than the Highlander and the quality is there for sure. All the so called "experts" really seem to like the Telluride more than the Highlander.
I guess it's whatever floats your boat. Only time will tell what the cost of ownership will be. As I said in an earlier post, I would not pay over MSRP however though and I didn't.

Do not just jump the gun and pay thousands more than what the trim model you want is worth. My husband and I patiently waited and searched for about a year until we were able to find the model we wanted and the color we wanted. We realized that a vast majority of the dealerships were luring customers in and requiring hefty deposits to secure said vehicle only to learn that after all of that you would wait 4 to 5 months for the vehicle to arrive. We would search local dealership inventories and then look up the vin on the Kia website to be able to see the sticker and full breakdown of everything included in the suggested MSRP. When the dealership we got ours from told us the ask price was almost 40k we were able to use the research we had done on VIN/Sticker as leverage to negotiate a price that was closer to estimated msrp. Believe me it was at one point a sort of pissing match between us and the dealership but in the end it paid off to remain firm on our offer. They will try to upsell the crap out of the vehicle and also use the hard to find tactic. Do not fall for it. Shop around, research all models and their prices and remain firm on your price. Believe me, if they want your business they will work with you. It gets frustrating but it will indeed pay off when you can reach an agreement on price. Good luck

100% agreed! I live in New Orleans, and was willing to go to TX, FL, GA if i had to in order to get the Dark Moss S model I wanted. We got lucky and were able to get the one we wanted locally.

How do you look up the VIN on Kia's website?

Find a dealer that will place an order at MSRP. In the Boston area, that's not hard if you call around. I did it at Gervais Kia, no problem. Lev Kia will also do it (but the wait was much longer).

I ordered a white SXP AWD with dune brown interior on January 13th, 2021. I took delivery from Gervais Kia on March 26th. That's under 8 weeks from placing the first phone call to driving off the lot – at MSRP.

I found mine in July 2020 on an inventory list in a town 45 miles away in the Houston area. I called and they said it was on a truck and would be delivered in about 30 minutes. I went down there as they pulled the Telluride into the bay to start prepping it. I asked for a test drive which they gave me. As we pulled back in another salesman was waiting with a customer to test drive it. While they were out I bought it at sticker minus $500 veteran credit. It is Dark Moss with tan interior and 4 bucket seats. I’ve put 18,800 miles on it and have been offered original sticker for it- nope, I am glad I went down and got it off the truck.I’ve been asked about it many times at the car wash and gas station. Every one wants to know how much I paid-less than sticker- and where I got it!
