• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Auto Engine Stop / Start?

My Dad hates it because of the AC gets warm. Now the starter not working and Kia wanted to charge him $670 bucks.

I'm having the same issue too. It's getting colder but not as cold as it is by you. I have been just getting the amber A and applying a good amount of pressure. I used to apply just enough you stop the car without initiating it. Now I just want to see it work and it won't.
I am having the same issue with my 2020 Telluride. It has worked without issue since I purchased it in October 2019. The last month or so it has not activated once.

If you haven’t been driving much on a daily basis, try driving on the highway for about an hour. The idea is to provide more charging to the battery from the alternator. Since this car has a lot of electronics and will drain the battery quick to the point you lose ISG function within a few days of not driving.

Alternatively, you can buy a trickle charger/maintainer to charge the battery back up to full. This will certainly restore ISG function.

If you don’t set your climate control to auto, ISG won’t work.

Also if you only lightly brake at a complete stop instead of fully depressing the brake pedal.

Otherwise, the ISG off button is the only other way.

It only saves gas if you make stops lasting more then 10 seconds.
They did study's during the gas crunch in the 80s that reveled if your modeling for more than 10 minutes it's best to shut off. If less than 10 minutes it actually uses more gas to start up. These newer cars are probably more efficient but I panic when my engine stops. I don't like it. Love the Telly though.

During the gas crunch of the 80s they did tests about shutting off cars for drive throughs. If you idle for less than 10 minutes it uses more gas to shut off and restart that to simply idle. Today's newer cars might be more fuel efficient but I don't think start stop at every stoplight is a good idea or fuel saver.

There's a small number of things that I really don't like about the Telly, and ISG is one of them. I just don't like pressing the button ever single time I start the car, nor does my wife.

I want to install the Shark Racing ISG module, but so far the instructions are a little incomplete (no instructions for removing center console that I could find) and I don't want to mess it up.

Interesting posts about ISG and I was hoping to read more consistent resolutions to this ISG malfunction from Kia! I had the same problem with my Telluride 2020 in April last year. I finally brought it to the dealer and after running an impressive number of tests, they finally found out that the battery was not charging properly and therefore the ISG could not be triggered, which makes sense. So they replaced the battery and my problem was solved for good. Sixteen months later, here I am with a brand new 2022 Telluride and I have just completed a road trip from the East Coast to Colorado (so a lot of highways and plenty time to keep my new battery fully charged). The ISG is not working again for the past few weeks for no reason!! I may end up bringing my new Telluride to a dealer again after reaching my final destination (West Coast). Now I am just guessing that maybe there are a bunch of defective batteries installed on those cars that don’t take a full charge when cars are running normally on roads. And by the way, the AC is not running since where I am staying, the temperatures don’t go above the high 70’s.
I will interested to read any comments/responses to my story. Thank you!

Update: car won’t start this morning - 10.5 volts and 0 CCA according to battery tester. Fully charge the battery and go for a long drive. Not once does the auto start work. Check battery an hour after the drive, voltage down to low 11.X volts and only 350 CCA, when it should be 700-800 CCA.

Alternator pushing voltage to charge the battery, passes when tested.

Seems the car is smart enough to not run the auto start on a dud battery. Not sure why it isn’t smart enough to throw a low voltage warning my way - in the car or via the mobile app.

Not really in the mood to drive to dealer for testing/replacement, but I’m pretty sure I can’t buy time. The battery seems to be failing rather fast, to the point driving somewhere could result in getting stranded.
Had mine at the dealership last month. was in for battery dyeing over night. (is only 2 years old). Dealer couldn't find anything wrong with battery. said could be seat trim causing drain. Come back when in stock. ok, Another return to Dealer to replace seat trim, parked and when they went to work on it found drain. SUPRIZE. Kept it for 2.5 weeks and replaced dc converter, BCM and then found rear tail latch assembly got the final blame. Now my ISG doesn't work. Dealer said its not related!! go figure!

Clearly, based on my own experience (my previous thread), and what I am reading from TheNip73, the battery seems to be failing or some of the “highly sophisticated” features in this car are draining the battery but no one can figure out… to be followed...

How could the seat trim possibly drain the battery

Does the Telly have that awful automatic stop / start feature, and if it does can it be disabled?
I just disabled mine. Took a medium length black zip tie and cut a center piece out of it the length of the switch. Push the switch in and push the zip tie in till the switch stays. Its Invisible and works great. Wonder how many billions the government spent on this joke only to have it disabled by a 1 cent zip tie. :)

Got a picture of what you did?

you have a pic?

Cut zip tie into a size similar to switch size. Press switch down..slip in cut zip tie. No more start/stop. Invisible.

Yes, in the beginning there was a FOUNDING MEMBER who folded a business card and then shove it in there just like you did, but that was a nasty looking hack. Your's on the other hand is nice. But I must wonder IF you ever needed to get that out, how would you do it? 🤔
Hope that helps everyone. :)

Great thanks that’s perfect. Any issues ? How long you have been using it like this? Does it work every time ? Thanks again
No problems so far. It's been a week now. Seems to work every time. As far as a long term fix some of the others posts used a dime or plastic from a Philadelphia cream cheese container . One person has been useing it for 3 months with no problems so far. I can't possibly see how it would harm any electronic components of the switch beings it's plastic. Also if you want to remove it a straight pin should do the trick. We call our moss green Telluride..Kermit. We love Kermit but not his stoplight switch. I panic when my car quits in the middle of the road no matter what the cause. I have 3 stoplights in my town..so urban stop and go traffic is not my driveing environment. Your welcome again. :)

A straight pin should work or small piece of wire.it's not in there very deep.:)
