If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2021 telluride rear entertainment system option?

🤖 AI Summary

Did you get any extra literature for the system?
No they told me the user manual was on the devices. Then when I asked for help they directed me to cal the Kia number on the window of my car. I called it, opened a ticket, waited weeks, finally called them back myself and they said to ask the dealership. I paid good money for this system and it’s useless to us. How can it not be compatible with apple?! I am praying there will be an update that does this....otherwise wondering what others have done to use it.

Yup we’re in the same boat.. waiting on a ticket from Kia. Dealership knows nothing

Don’t hold your breathe. I waited 2-3 weeks without a call back then when I called they said to contact the parts manager. I called the service manager because he was the only person I could find and haven’t heard a thing. Just frustrating. I tried buying a cord to play my phone but then I’ll have to have that cord and two hdmis. Way too much clutter for the center console area.

Did you look at the user manual on the device? Either should be on there, or, if it’s anything like the regular Kia infotainment, it’ll be a QR code to scan and take you to the manual.

If you can sideload apps, you may be able to get something compatible with Apple AirPlay. If the Kia tablets are compatible with the google apps store you can try to do the same. I have a Kindle Fire tablet (which is Android underneath Amazon’s FireOS) and I was able to get an app called “AirReceiver”. That might be a way to screen mirror from an Apple device but you can’t mirror most streaming services. I’ve tried some lightning to HDMI cables and I get mixed results. If you have an iPad, I hate to say it the easier solution is to mount the iPad in the headrest instead of using this Kia system.

The way things are going with streaming apps you need something that will run the streaming app natively so you can download. I’m not aware of any of the services that will let you store the files to a USB or SD card and play them out of the app. I wouldn’t bother trying a streaming stick through HDMI because the streaming sticks don’t work like the phone and tablet apps, you can’t download before you drive.

I read it front to back and was unimpressed at limited capabilities of something so expensive. If you don’t have an android phone you are out of luck. This was something that should have been brought up before the purchase. I’m now trying to find a work around which is what brought me to this site. Was hoping there was something easy so I can make it work for our family.

IMHO this is a solution that is about 4 years too late. I purchased android tablets/DVD players with similar functionality for less than $300 (for two) about 3 years ago. But I haven’t purchased DVDs to convert to files in longer timeframe. The problem with spending too much on an OEM entertainment system is that it is obsolete as soon as gets into mass production. And the aftermarket affordable options make it so easy to buy and replace in a couple years. Tablets are portable which makes them removable for security and far less expensive. Now that my kids are using the tablet I’m using the “old” screen with HDMI input for a raspberry pi mini computer. Amazon is a tech company that has the resources to maintain their own flavor of Android in FireOS and the pull to get new streaming apps on it (more than just YouTube and Netflix) like Disney+, HBOMax, Hulu, PrimeVideo, etc. Kia isn’t going to offer much in terms of keeping their tablet OS new and fresh. My advice is to carefully consider how you plan to use the screens before you buy and remember two things will happen before you get rid of the Telluride: either the tech will break or your kids age up and will have moved onto to something newer and far more convenient for you.

If I were buying android based screens for the car today vs. tablets mounted on a headrest, I would probably lean toward something that offered AirPlay (Apple mirroring) along with Miracast (Android mirroring). DDAUTO DD125N9 don't have DVD players, but the rest looks very comparable to the Kia system and these are compatible with Apple AirPlay. You get two 12.5" monitors for 1/3 the Kia price.

Remember even if you bought some dealer offered extended technology warranty that covers the Kia Entertainment system, it won't cover obsolescence. An android tablet that can no longer get newer patches and firmware isn't going to be very useful to you in a couple years. I bought a treadmill years ago with an integrated android tablet thinking it was going to be great. While it still works, it's useless to me because the streaming functionality is limited, the wifi hardware is capped at 802.11b so I have to dumb down my home wifi for this one device, and the old embedded android tablet doesn't support bluetooth headphones, so I still need wired headphones on a treadmill. The rest of the treadmill still works great so I use the plastic shelf underneath the embedded tablet to rest a more modern tablet not sold by Nordictrack.

Can you control the rear entertainment system from the front seats?

Few things for those that are curious...

The tablets have basically no apps available to them.

Apple products cannot mirror at all.

apple priducts can work via HDMI (I hooked up an Apple TV to test).

As stated before you cannot control anything on the screens from the front. Touchscreen or remotes only.

You cannot have the screens mirror each other (unless I haven’t figured that out yet).

You can have the audio play through car if you pair the screen as a Bluetooth audio device to vehicle itself (why it can’t natively detect is beyond me).

I didn’t actively choose this package - just was part of a vehicle that had everything else I wanted.

honestly - it sucks. But with some rigging (hiding all cables and keeping an Apple TV in back with a splitter to mirror the screens) it proves to be pretty damn useful for my 2 kids on a longer trip.

Just trying to make the most of these things. Certainly wouldn’t encourage anyone to actively choose the product as an add on.

Current set up is only way I can currently get them to dual play. Now that I know it works I’ll probably get longer cables so I can properly hide them

This is using an Apple TV connected to an HDMI splitter. Kids can watch whatever they want with it mirroring on both screens. Plays sound through car speakers and I control volume from up front.

it’s not perfect but it’s the best thing I can figure out so far (and works very well). As stand alone products these things are junk though. This car could benefit from 1. Vehicle WiFi and 2. Integrated tablet control. Currently they have no connection at all.

But I saw on a video that that they came preinstalled with a few apps. One of those being Youtube. How are they getting youtube to work?

Yes YouTube is on there. You have to use a hotspot of your own to make it work though. You also cannot have both screens mirror the same video - so both have to connect to BT headphones. For my 6 and 3 year old this isn’t realistic to do with zero controls from the front. So ultimately it’s worthless (for me at least - though I’m hard pressed to find a situation where what they offer natively is desirable).

also outside YouTube there is a CNN and Fox News RSS feed. Nothing else really though other than a few awful games.

It appears that these are a pair of android 9.0 tablets and screens that are worth about $200 each with a $1000 Kia logo on them and a seat mount bracket made by Kia. The functionality is on par with a number of aftermarket ones that cost much less. Do a search for “naviskauto android 9.0” or “ddauto”for example and you may find screens with almost identical functionality.

Is this option worth it even compared to buying 2 apple ipads for $800? You can even get a decent android based tablet for $250 these days. Especially with having those handy usb ports at the side of each front seat.

Absolutely not worth it.

I wonder how well this setup works for those of us that Android folks. Could we miracast to them.? Could sideload apps form the app store? or access apkpure's website on the screen to add apps? or download the apps to a usb and install them? Is there really no way to add apps for those of us that are android users?

The advantage I see is that they would fall under kia bumber to bumber warranty vs an aftermarket system like the ddauto125n9 only has a 1 year warranty and the word is once your outside of the Amazon 30day return, their customer service is horrible.

You can mirror from android yes. But only to 1 screen at a time. They can’t mirror the 2 to play at same time.

so at that point you need 2 android devices and you need to use BT headphones. Inconvenient for anyone with small kids.

Assuming electronic accessories are covered by the bumper to bumper why would you want this technology 10 years from now? Instead of spending $1,500 you could upgrade every couple years or when it breaks and your investment still ends up the same or less for better.

I am considering buying a Telluride off a lot that has the rear entertainment option. Not something I would choose on my own, but this model has everything else I want. Anyone know if you're able to remove them for day-to-day driving and reinstall every now and then (i.e., long road trips), or is removing them a permanent decision? If you do remove them, am I understanding correctly that there will be a wire coming from the seat? Any chance anyone has pictures?? Any input is appreciated!
