Cruise Control Limits

I love the SCC, but have a couple questions about it's limits in extreme situations........
1) If you were driving about 60 - 65 mph w/ SCC engaged, and came up on a car which was at a dead stop in your lane, would the SCC (without action by you) stop
you in time ?
2) Do you think the SCC would "see" a moose in your lane, and react like it would would for a car ?

One of the annoying thing about SCC is that, IMO, it is overly sensitive. Anecdotally, the interstate speed limit for cars around here is 80. I'm running CC and coming up on a semi doing 65. The Telly notices the speed difference and starts slowing down hard about 15 car lengths back. I have to move over to the left lane sooner than I am used to. As for the moose - I saw one coming off the shoulder the other day and used my brakes. Don't know about the automatic sensing of it.

1) Yes the car should stop in time, I always have it engaged and let the car stop on it's own at highway speeds approaching stopped cars. On my drive to/from work I drive at about 70-75 on a highway that has several stoplights so this is a common scenario for me. I'm of course always aware and ready to stop on my own if needed.

2) I believe it probably would stop if the moose was actually fully in your lane but if the moose was to one side or the other there's a good chance it would assist but not stop in time. Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection is known to be much less effective at high speeds and I would assume the same is true for Cervidae Detection. Especially since a moose is more likely to be running, while a pedestrian is more likely to be walking.

Also, there are options to change how quickly the Telluride alerts you to collisions and how much of a following distance you prefer to keep from other vehicles. I'd suggest setting these to the safest options initially and then modify them as you see fit if it seems annoyingly cautious.

As @Tortuga07 noted, there is a follow distance setting AND a sensitivity setting (ie, speed/intensity of reaction). At first my husband thought this was overkill, but after 3000 miles across 6 states, he has it dialed in to his preferences. He jokes that he lets the car drive itself. Of course, he does remain engaged behind the wheel. HTH

Bottom left button changes following distance. 1,2,3, or 4 lines. More Lines = More Distance. That can only be changed when cruise is turned on I believe.


Other safety settings will be in that straight ahead screen under User Settings/Driver Assistance.
