• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey gang - does anyone know what type of oil is delivered in the Telluride from the factory? i.e. synthetic vs. non vs. semi- etc. I'm coming up on 3,500 miles since new, usually with new engines I do early oil change on the first one. But curious to know what type of oil they are delivered with.

From what I read, they have a supplier agreement with TOTAL and use 5W-30 full synthetic. It's available through Amazon. I plan to use Mobil 1 5W-30 Truck & SUV which is a slightly more robust version of their 5W-30 options.

What is strange is the two different dealers I’ve been to for oil changes both changed out with conventional or non synthetic oil. When I asked one of the service employees about using synthetic they told me they do not use it on Tellurides.

Whatever it came with wasn’t an indicator of what I planned on using. For the life of the car, I’ll be using Kirkland 5W30.

I have read about the agreement with TOTAL... BUT it does not seem reasonable that KIA would import oil to use in the US built cars. Just thinking out loud. Another new-ish option is Rotella Gas Truck.

Had the first oil change today. I talked to 2 people on the phone prior to the appointment and then a guy at the dealership: I wanted full synthetic.

Guess what they put in? Semi-Synthetic. I live an hour away or else I would have waited for them to get it right. Big picture, the semi-synthetic is not a big deal, especially with our service package of 5000 mile oil changes. But still... my first local dealership experience and it was not very positive.

You have to specifically ask for it and make sure. They dont use it I imagine because its more expensive. I dont know of any reason to specifically not use synthetic oil in a car nowadays.

I did ask for synthetic at my first oil change. The employee told me they don’t offer it for my car. Tried to tell me it’s only meant for European cars. I probably could have made a big deal about it, but I just wanted to get out of there as quick as I could during COVID.

lol. That makes no sense. Synthetic means less profit I guess.

The Kirkland oil doesn't seem to meet the ACEA A5 spec as required by Kia if it is available in your country. They give other options if it not available in your country though. Any concern about voiding the powertrain warranty? I'm interested in using a VW 504 Spec oil which is probably the best you can use for a direct injection engine, but this also does not meet their spec. It seems the A5 spec is only being forced to be used for fuel economy though. OIL COMPARISON 504 SPEC COMPARED TO ACEA A5.webp

Mobil 1 Full Synthetic will work just fine.

I haven't seen Total in store shelves anywhere outside of France/EU

I’ll be honest, I haven’t really looked at what spec the manual called for. I have done one oil change on the Telluride at 7000km and the only difference I noticed was an improved fuel consumption (L/100km) from 10.8 to 10.2.

Which from the chart provided would be the only thing I should be missing out on.
