Are there factory "preferred" dealers for getting your Telluride order accepted?

We placed an order for an SX Preferred Moss Green Nightfall but the dealer in Indianapolis tells us they are having troubles getting new orders accepted at the factory. They have to resubmit them periodically and hope one gets accepted. Is this common? Are there dealers who have higher status due to sales volumes that can get an order accepted?? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, there are high volume dealers and low volume dealers. Even if a dealer places your order into the ordering system (Kdealer), if their monthly “acceptance” (KFOS allocation) is only 1-2 Tellurides per month it will take a lot longer than a larger volume dealer that has a 10-30 Telluride allotment per month. Their allotments are based on the volume of sales they are able to sell over time and also locality.

I don’t think the dealer necessarily has to “resubmit” an order multiple times though, it just stays in the Kdealer queue until KFOS picks it up. I would also ask the dealer what place you are in line for orders at the dealership.

One way to check how many Tellurides are being delivered to your dealer is by using the Failcat tool.

You could also search your city/state for good dealer experiences. Or stories from owners that previously purchased from high volume dealers.

Interesting. At least that’s better than allocating based on the amount of dealer markup that gets kicked back to Kia corporate.

I would imagine it might go hand-in-hand a little bit...the dealers with less allocation mark them up more to maximize profit.

Doing a quick search of dealers in IN, from what I can tell, Ray Skillman @ 8424 US 31 is your best bet. They had 622 allocations. About double the next highest dealer.

As you probably know, there are several Ray Skillman Kia dealers. The one I listed had the highest allocation. The other 2 Skillman dealerships had 275 & 220 allocations. That's a big difference so make sure you selected the correct one. They're IN004.

You cannot. From what I understand, that is only accessible by the dealer.

Mine has been ordered by one with 205 in failcat, which I interpret to be decent but not fantastic. I went with them because they were very easy to deal with and were very up front about only MSRP with no required extras.

There’s another locally mentioned here with 320 or so, but I guess I’ll wait a bit longer to support those I’d like to do business with.

Sounds like S has less demand than SX anyway. And mine is an S.

- Click Stats.
- Enter your dealer's code, select 12 months, group by Month. This will show you total number of Tellies your dealer received for the last 12 months.
- You can set the Model [SX AWD etc] to see how many of the total cars were the model you are ordering.

edited to add: my dealership has at least one every single month. Others have more total, but there are some months in which they got zero. Does this make a difference?

Yep, that's it. Failcat stats tell you the average number of S FWD they were allocated per month. Then you need to know how many S FWDs are ahead of you in the dealer's order book. Dealer allocations are not set in stone, so they may get a few more or a few less this year than last. Averages are all we have. Dealers with a higher unit/mth allocations may be better, but they may also have more orders on their books. If you are getting MSRP without a price gouging markup, you should be in good shape.

Just discovered there are zero people in front of me. And they get an average of 1.8 S FWD tellurides per month. For an easy-going salesman (Jonathan at Cowboy Kia in Conroe) with orders at MSRP, I’m pleased and hope to get in in around 8 weeks or so.

I ordered from Fort Bend Kia in May with a 6 month wait. I'm experiencing issues getting an answer to my "How many SXP AWDs are ahead of me" question.

Did you need to pay a deposit for your Tellurude order? Will you have charges other than MSRP, TT&L such as Dealer Fees?

I paid a $1,000 refundable deposit. I’ve been told no extra fees. I don’t have any sort of contract writing that out.
