• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I need input here. I have an opportunity to pick up a Telluride earlier than my October date (like tomorrow!). However, the Telly does not come with the tow package included on my original order.

From reading certain threads, it seems the package does not lend much to towing capabilities or safety.

I'm considering buying the vehicle and adding a tow hitch to it. Bad idea? Good idea?

I want the hitch in order to have the option of pulling a small trailer, boat, or travel trailer in the future. I do not have that option with my current car (RX 350) and is one of the reasons I'm purchasing a new car.

I would really appreciate your input. I received 'the call's from my sales person like 15 minutes ago! I need to clean my car (trade-in) and meet her out their first thing tomorrow! 😳 😀 😳

I'm very excited. However, really could use info about the tow pkg. I originally ordered the pkg thinking it was a necessary for towing. This was before finding this forum.

You'd be fine towing a small trailer or boat. I wouldn't recommend towing a travel trailer with the Telluride, period. People do it. I have a 3500lb camper I tow with my F150. It's rated to tow 7k. I would never tow 7k with it for any significant distance. Half the capacity or so is comfortable. The guy I bought my camper from used an MDX to tow it (rated for 5k) and ruined his tranny towing it.

I have the tow package, I don't notice the self leveling shocks doing a whole lot while towing or hauling loads. I do like the factory hitch and 7pin set up though.

Aftermarket hitch doesn't look as well integrated, and will cost a bit to add the 7 pin connector. You will not have self-leveling rear suspension. It's not a huge deal for small, infrequent towing, but if this is one of the main reasons you want a Telluride....might want to think twice. I'm sure it'll feel great to have a new car tomorrow, but what about a year from now? Will you regret not waiting? Ultimately, your call!

I would not tow a travel trailer that's close to 5k lbs in weight. I can't help but to wonder what other factors came into play for the MDX owner.

I knew him the entire time he owned the camper. He used a weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes. He was doing it as right as he could. Didn't drive more than a few hundred miles a day while towing, kept the speed lower.
