I ordered a car in April and it just arrived but KIA had also added the Rear Seat Entertainment system that I had not ordered.

Definitely not interested in that system, especially as it doesn't seem the screens can be removed. Don't want to pay 1.5k extra for it, I would even pay not to have it installed as the screens take a lot of space and cannot be folded anywhere....

Any thoughts on what I should do? Ordered another car? Just suck it up and pay 1.5k extra and deal with having screens in the way....?

Or does anyone know that the screens can be removed?

Surely they can be uninstalled?

Normally I'd say you're in the driver's seat here and you could just say uninstall it and get rid of the extra cost before you pay for the car. But my guess is the dealership probably doesn't care they know someone else will show up within a week and buy the car. If you really want the car you'll probably have to take it as is. But if you're patient just cancel the purchase and order a new one and wait it out. Hopefully someone on these boards who's been in this situation can chime in and give you good advice.

This is the third example I have heard of with this situation. It is super messed up that you are forced to accept that as your "matched" car for your order. It's one thing to get floor mats or roof racks added, but this is super intrusive and a lot more expensive for something a lot of people don't want at all. I thought the whole point of ordering and waiting several months was to actually get what you want - this is completely ridiculous, and at this point I am unsettled about the fact that it could happen to mine, too.

Yes, I am not exactly thrilled with this whole experience. This was my first time ordering a car and will probably be my last (at least from KIA). I waited 4+ months and didn't even get what I ordered. The dealer is not very helpful either, just saying take it or leave it, they will sell it to someone else if I don't take it. They can then order me another car with 6-8 months added waiting time.

Will definitely not recommend this for anyone.

My guess is that they are not truly ordering what you want but looking at what they have ordered and saying it’s a close enough match, they’ll take it…knowing if you don’t, someone else will. If you didn’t actually get the Kdealer sheet showing your name as a sold order with the exact order, with the exact options, you really can’t prove that they actually ordered what they said they did. If you do have that Kdealer sheet, then I’m dumbfounded…

This exact samething happened to a guy on reddit, the dealer gave it to him for free. So point here is, open your mouth and make things happen.

Don't let this sour you on car ordering in general. I've ordered many and Kia seems to be the only one where this happens. Floor mats or wheels locks is one thing but your situation is ridiculous and I'd be pissed, too. That's why it pays to get a copy of the dealer order sheet.

I ended up getting the car as I found out that the RSE screens could easily be removed. This thanks to the Forum, the dealier had no idea. Their service team even recommended not to remove them as they said there could be issues with the wiring.

In any case this was the only dealier within the state who would give me an order for MSRP so still got the car for a fairly good deal. Overall pretty happy despite having to pay for the RSE system, I will use it for long road trips in any case.

Sounds good. Enjoy your new ride!

My guess is your dealer added that feature when you ordered it. Every dealer has been jacking the prices up on Tellurides calling it Supply In Demand. In Texas, we call it Price Gouging!

More than the unjustly price increase, what would bother me more is undoing years of parenting. No screens in the car

My guess is they never “ordered” your specific car, or that order never got picked up. They probably saw something close to what you ordered and said it was your car, take it or leave it. My dealer contacted me a few times to let me know that they had something similar to what I ordered, but it would come faster than my order. I ended up taking one of these cars as it was identical to mine minus interior light kit.

I ordered in April from Lucas at Kia Muncie. The dealership and this sales rep' have a very positive reputation by all accounts I've read. I received the dealer order sheet as confirmation it was ordered as I requested with the right options at the right price. At the time I ordered and in the same email they used to send me the order sheet I was told there are times Kia will produce the car with an option or options that were not part of the dealership's order. Kia has not taken my order yet much less produced a vin # so I don't know if this has happened to me so I can't say what Kia Muncie would do in this instance. Just sharing that I've been told by a reputable dealership and salesperson that this order practice is something the dealership may not always control. Though I would expect if it does happen it's something the dealership and/or Kia would take steps to do the right thing and remediate the issue.
