I can’t find either for msrp near me yet or even any to actually look at. I am torn between the Tellurides and the new Carnival minivan or “mpv” I believe they’re calling it. Has anyone seen both or better yet, driven both? I’m leaning Carnival prestige, but the Tellurides are more attractive looking outside obviously. I have never owned a Kia but I am really thinking I need to. I just do not want to over pay for one and I can’t find any to even look at for the other. I’m just hoping I can get some advice from current owners.

Telluride vs Carnival?

How many kids, what age, how much cargo space do you need? I've had Sedonas and went from my Sedona to the Telluride. For me, kids are getting older, not driving bunches of kids for school car pool, so the Sedona was feeling a bit much. Had the Carnival been out when I got my 2nd Sedona (1st was totalled in an accident), I probably would have gone with the Carnival.
I have one older (preteen) and one younger who is just starting school this year. We do soccer and baseball so chairs and all that.

Chairs and such will definitely fit behind the 3rd row, probably baseball bag as well. If you're just taking your kids, with 3rd row down there's plenty of room for gear.
It's hard when you can't look at one - maybe there are some Telluride & Carnival owners that would let you look?

We are past strollers so we didn’t look at minivans. We do soccer and road trips in the Telluride… we’ll add camping this fall.
Carnival doesn’t have HUD, if that matters to you. There are likely other feature differences as well.
I do want to be chauffeured in a Carnival so I can try its recliners sometime!
We've looked at both in person. I ended up not driving it so couldn't tell you if they handled differently or how it handled. I got to test drive the Telly first and loved it. I really like the Carnival as well, I waited to shop for a new car until the Carnival was available to see. In the end I decided it was bigger than we (family of 4) really needed day to day. I'm currently driving a Sorento and wanted something bigger. The Carnival offers many of the same safety and tech features.
If your in the market for a minivan and like the space they offer, I'd go for the Carnival. There are a number of videos reviewing both, I like the Kia Hyundai channel, Brantford KIA. They are Canadian dealership that put out some good video reviews.

I haven’t seen one of the carnivals on the road even. I did actually flag down a family in a parking lot earlier and ask if I could see inside of their telluride
I thought it might have more leg room than my current vehicle (2020 Subaru ascent) from the reviews but it didn’t seem to have noticeably more leg room. I want my son to be able to hop in from the car rider line and take off his backpack and get into his little kid seat quickly. ______________________________
I don’t even hate minivans but the Carnival was close to being butt ugly when I saw it in person.
From your second post IDK why you even need either? Sounds like the SantaFe/Sorento/CRV/Rogue segment will offer more than enough space

The Carnival MPV looked like a squatty SUV in photos and was what drew us to it initially. We checked one out here in OR, and it’s beautiful inside, but still felt too “van” for our liking, and definitely looked like a plump minivan in person. If that’s your thing, it might be for you. The Telluride SXP has the luxury and storage without the van feel. That said, the gas mileage is the only thing we wish were better on Tellies, and hope they come out with a hybrid or E version in the future.

The Carnival looks better in the marketing images than in person. In the images, it looks very SUV like. But it is still clearly a minivan when you see one in traffic among other cars. If you want sliding doors, then the Carnival is a good choice. If you want the SUV look, you'll want the Telluride.

Hi. Not sure if this will help or not but we have had 2 Sedonas. Our current one is a 2020 EX model that we will be trading in for our 2022 Telluride S AWD in Dark Moss. I have loved our Sedonas but our kids are now 20, 18 and 10 and I wanted something a little less momish LOL. The Sedona/carnival is great for school drop off and pick up with the power sliding doors and no need to worry when they open the doors when your parked at the store. Ive seen a Carnival on the lot and if my kids were still young I probably would have ordered one but I’ve wanted a Telluride since they came out

Our friends recently purchased a Carnival. (They wouldn't have even considered Kia until we purchased a Telluride.) It's really nice. As people have said, it depends on your family's needs. We had three Honda Odyssey minivans from 2005 until this year when we bought the Telluride. The Carnival is nicer than the Odyssey, and somehow has even more room behind the third row.
We miss two main aspects of the minivan: One, our dog could get in and out of the sliding doors much easier, and had a ton more space between the first and second rows (he's a big dog, and getting older). Second, the minivan had way more room inside. Our kids are all teenagers now and we just took a trip to Colorado with all three. In the minivan, there was no need for additional storage. I could even fit my skis in back on winter trips, with three kids and all our stuff.
With the Telluride last month, we needed a roof box. Also, our daughter went off to college last fall. We got her there with the minivan, and had plenty of room for all her stuff plus three passengers. We picked her up in May with the Telluride and, even with the roof box and without my wife, we were still really challenged for space.
If the Carnival had an AWD option, we very well might be looking to trade. It doesn't though, so we'll live with the inconveniences of less space.

Ohhh, see that is helpful! NONE of the dealerships have gotten any in down here. I talked to three of them and they’re all getting their first ones at the end of this month or the beginning of next month. So I guess that’s why I haven’t seen any yet on the road.
min this photo it looks really nice to me too. Big, yes but your kids are only little for so long so I’m not too worried about driving a mom mobile for all that long. Lol. I can put in three years worth of a lease for sure

I looked at the Sedona when I was shopping for my Telluride. There's no way I would buy a Carnival brand new. The name change isn't going to save you from the depreciation hit the Sedonas would take. Values on used ones are up now but inventories are low and new Sedonas were hard to come by at the end of their run. Once they catch back up on production, post chip shortage, prices will drop, probably like a rock on the Kia vans.
In early 2020 I looked at a used 2019 EX Sedona. The new 2020 base EX's were $34k on the lot, this one was a year old with 15k mi for $21k.
I looked at another one that was completely loaded, every option, private party sale with a thousand miles on it. (Owner passed away.) They had it listed for $29k and it took them three months of trying to sell it before taking it to a dealer. I think they said he paid $42k+ for it.
The crossovers hold their value better than vans although the Hondas and Toyotas do much better than the Kias.

Yes our dog is spoiled and likes to go with us everywhere and she has her own bed and basket in the back with her stuff (cooling mat, treats, harness, etc.) in here as well. Our frenchie is aging as well with only two years left until she reaches the age of life expectancy of her breed. I guess I should have noted that’s something we need space for as well earlier. My main concern though is my kids (well mostly my youngest obviously as he is just starting school this year)being able to get in and take their little packs off and get in their car seats quickly and without much help. But that, PLUS all our crap + furry family member being in the back as well
I just worry that it will be too slow and sluggish. I don’t want to get hit from behind because I’m used to driving vehicles with some oomph under the hood. The more I read the more I am thinking though perhaps for this short season of our lives, a van really would be best.I hear what you are saying. I only lease my vehicles but even with that I may benefit to wait until the shortage passes to see if I don’t end up at a much lower payment in a few months. Although many factors are at play with all that which we obviously don’t want to get into on an internet forum about vehicles. For sure though you make an excellent point. I need to look up the sales numbers on the carnivals in places where they’ve actually been available and see what the sales look like. Apparently from what I have read so far Kia is marking them up like the Tellurides though because they’re expecting them to be as popular but I think it’s being confused with the high overall demand happening right now partially.

I've seen 4 or 5 come through my local dealer, they've all been priced at sticker, a couple have sat for a week or so. They don't have anything else to sell so I can't blame them for not discounting. There's not much out there to buy new at this point so people snatch up what's available. I'm guessing they don't lease well right now given there are likely no incentives. It seems like a bad time to have to lease or move on from a lease unless you're looking at a compact car or smaller SUV. My buddy just bought his F150 off lease because he couldn't find another one.
