Buying out of state - yet another question!

Hi friends, thanks for everyone posting and helping one another out, this forum is such an awesome resource! So long story short, after a few years of eyeing the Telluride, we are finally in the market to buy one! The last few cars I've purchased new, i've always found 10 or so local dealers, sent emails to them with our exact desired car configuration, the invoice price of the car and a request that they respond with their best offer. This online bidding process has gotten me KILLER deals on the three new cars I've bought, well under MSRP and even under invoice. Buying a Telluride in a pandemic is not going to work like that I'm afraid. Is it at all possible to get a deal on these cars, or is the best I can hope for to buy it at MSRP? I won't waste my time reaching out to a bunch of dealers if the best I can get is MSRP via a factory order.

The only other question is I have family that just moved to GA and I am in Washington State. Is it worth reaching out to dealers out there or again, is the best I am going to do is MSRP?

Yeah, most Kia dealers won't play the email game - simply because most don't have any in stock. And, if they have one sitting on the lot, it is likely marked up significantly.

About the only way you can get something less than MSRP, is in finance incentives. Meaning, if Kia is offering a rebate (usually $500). But, the trade off there is you pay a higher interest rate. So, the only way to come out ahead on that is to finance it, take the rebate, then pay off the vehicle in full, ASAP.

Our intention was to pay cash, so that wouldn't be a terrible idea although I'd have to make sure that any financing charges we paid were less than the deal we were getting. I've pretty much given up hope I'll pay below MSRP, but I'll be darned if I'm paying OVER MSRP. We are willing to wait for one to be ordered and the idea of paying 5-10k over MSRP makes me sick. West coast dealers have gone crazy with that nonsense.

I think after calling untold west coast dealers, we are going to go with i25 in CO. It's a long drive but they seem to be honest, straightforward and easy to deal with. The only downside is the wait is 4-5 months and that puts us squarely in winter which may not be the best time to drive from CO to WA

I hear you. However, it really depends on packages you order, trim, and timing. The dealerships throw general numbers. I was told 3-4 months by my dealer. I received it in 7 weeks!

An idea: In the interim, find out how much it would cost to have the vehicle shipped to you. Just in case the scenario you described happens. I would start by contacting your salesperson in Colorado. Chances are they have done that in the past, and may be able to provide a shipping contact.

If you were planning to trade in your old vehicle, you may want to consider other options (selling it to a private party, Carmax, or donate it), based on it’s condition, rather than having to make that wintry drive.

I have until the end of October to buy a car. I bought my granddaughter a car and am driving it until she gets her license. Normally I’d rent but right now to rent a car is about $600 a week. I had been leasing a Lexus but wasn’t thrilled with it so I jumped at the chance to sell it back to them. Never occurred to me I’d be without a car. I’m ok with buying out of state and having it shipped. Was Co the best deal you could find? I too am in Washington so everywhere is going to be a long drive. Good luck!

Picked up mine from i25 in February, drives great in CO snow back to CA. Don’t know about WA, but should be good.
