2022 Telluride Options Awful in CANADA

🤖 AI Summary

No AI summary has been generated for this thread yet.
My local dealer in Quebec, Canada, is offering to buy back my 2020 SX Limited and sell me a 2022 SX Limited Nightsky. She specifically said that I would be able to get the Wolf Grey color, and mentioned that Kia Canada's web site still shows 2021 Tellurides, which explains why that color is not yet available when looking at the web site. Seems to confirm what others are saying, that you can order a Wolf Grey 2022 Telluride in Canada through a dealer.

Uggh, why do you do this? I'm so tempted to change my order to this.

I emailed my broker and he said that it would not change my place in line, supposedly. I ordered maybe 2 weeks ago.

How do you like your gravity grey? How's the dirt situation? Was the color what you thought it would be? I think the GG with nightsky looks great ... but maybe a touch too dark ... but I ordered it anyways lol.

For me, Gravity Grey was the only color I really liked back in 2019 when I ordered it. Once delivered two months later, it was as I expected it and I was quite happy with it. Dirt can be quite visible, depending on what exactly the dirt is made of (I can get away with dirt from the race track, but sand-like dirt is quite visible). But ever since I've owned a dirt-colored Nissan Xterra and dirt was visible on it anyway, I've stoped worrying about car color vs dirt ;)

The only thing I've never been quite happy with was the color of the wheels. And ever since the Nightsky edition came out, I've always been a bit envious. So my current opportunity to change is quite welcome :) I thought about ordering a Gravity Gray again, with Nightsky, because it does look good... but Wolf Grey with Nightsky catches my eye even more now :)

I'm only going by what I was shown on the dealerships computer. It was 2022 ordering literature that Kia had sent the dealers. My guess is that every dealer differs with what the availability is on options and colors.

Having said that, the 2021 nightsky was only equipped with standard black leather. For 2022 the nightsky was supposed to have the nappa leather as an option and in several colors, including a dune brown. It doesn't!

Until the website is updated to the 2022 Telluride and all 2021 orders are filled, not all options will be available.

If you go this route, you may need to go to extreme lengths for warranty repairs (ie. driving it back and forth to the US). I think somebody tried to get a warranty repair for a Canadian spec in the US and realized they would have to drive to Canada for coverage.

If you legally buy from your daughter, you will be the second owner and forfeit the original owner 10-year (100k mile) coverage and it drops to 5-year (60k mile). In Canada the 5-year (100km) warranty remainder is fully transferable.

Lastly, you get 5 year trial of UVO Intelligence with a Canadian spec, but only 1 year trial of UVO link for US spec. There may also be limitations and region restrictions when you are trying to use Kia Access (US app). For example, Alexa/Google Assistant for remote start.
Something that has changed recently, you now only get 3 years of UVO in Canada, not 5.

Saw this recently in Kelowna, a 2022 with the new badging.

Wolf grey not available in Canada as far as I know. I would have seriously considered it but I ordered GG sxp nightsky.

Well, it sucks but it is what it is. Our market is way, way smaller than the US market and when rolling out the production line this is what we get.

I'm in Vancouver as well. I ordered a week or so ago and have no idea when it's coming in lol.
One thing I learned back when i ordered mine in 2019 is that Kia Canada is run completely seperate from Kia USA. I wanted the black wheels for mine but they weren't available in Canada so I emailed Kia Canada and they told me that they pick and choose the options that they want to sell in Canada. A good example of that is, due to the Canadian climate, only AWD models are offered in Canada which is why our models start at EX. Why Kia Canada decides to only offer certain interior trims is beyond me. They also have factory installed trailer hitches in the USA but not here in Canada. We have more terrain modes than the US models do which to me makes no sense. Can definitely be frustrating indeed.

My Wolf Grey SXL Nightsky will be here this week, so yes, Wolf Grey is available for 2022 Nightsky models only.

Awesome news! I'm guessing that you weren't able to order the nappa or premium headliner, were you?

If you are in the greater Vancouver area I may nicely creep you to check out your Telly in person if you don't mind lol ....

I'd love to see the wolf grey in person as well as I'm having a tough time persuading my wife to sway away from the gwp. If she saw it in person I'm certain she'd go for it! 👍

You’ll need the 4.5 hour flight as I am outside of Hamilton, ON. I will take lots of pics though :).

No on the headliner and nappa. I am OK without the nappa, the headliner is a bit disappointing just for the colour but I’ll live.

I need a vacay anyways. I'm double vaxxed and ready to go.

You're the second person that said wolf grey is available and you're both located in Ontario. I'm starting to wonder if it is even available in BC.

Wolf grey is available in BC. It is only available as an option to the larger Kia dealers. Not all dealers have access to it as it will show as not available.

Unfortunately until Kia updates their website for the 2022 Telluride, nappa and the premium headliner are still unavailable on the nightsky edition.

I'm going to place an order and if they update the website before it comes, I'll cancel and reorder it in hopefully the equivalent to the dune brown nappa with dark premium headliner.

It’s highly unlikely things have changed that they would have included the Nappa Leather and Premium Headliner for NightSky. I saw the print out for 2022 and it definitely wasn’t listed.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of the premium headliner. It will drive you nuts when you have someone touch it and then you then try to even out to match the direction it’s all brushed in originally.

I placed my order for a NightSky locally here in BC as well in July and I was told it’s easily 3 months wait at that time. With the current chip shortage….could be even longer unless you luck out and someone cancels an order for exactly what you’re looking for.

I read a magazine article pertaining to updates for 2022 Canadian models and they listed the nappa, premium headliner for the nightsky edition as well as exterior and exterior color additions for the Telluride.

I ordered a wolf grey sxl nightsky edition an hour ago from West Coast Kia. If the website updates I will cancel and reorder with the updated options.

I was told that potential delivery of my sxl nightsky (order early mid Aug) would be in "november" ...

hey Cuda021312, if you are already ordering a '22 shouldn't it already have the nappa and prem headliner?

Or are you saying that early '22 models may not have it - but late '22 models may have it?

I'm confused.

Because I ordered just awhile ago and if that's the case (I can't imagine Kia doing that - adding something mid year like that would piss off customers that didn't make the cutoff ...) i'd consider re-ordering. I'm just scared of screwing up my place in line ... chip shortage and all.

Based on what I've learned is that Kia decided to cut off the 2021 model production early and are filling the 2021 pre-orders with 2022 models. Until those orders are all filled they won't be updating the website showing the 2022 models and all updated available options. That is because those 2021 pre-orders are being built exactly according to how they were ordered based on the available 2021 options. If they updated their website now, people will question why they couldn't get the updated options as they were given 2022 models. This way, they get their orders and can't question not being able to alter their orders based on the newly added options. I think they will update the website sometime in October or early November.

So I just arrived home from trying to order a 2022 Telluride Nighfall Edition in Vancouver, BC, CANADA.

To say that I'm disappointed would be an understatement.

The 2022 Tellurides that are sold in CANADA are based on the 2021 model year specs. This means that the top of the line SX Limited Nightfall Edition isn't equipped with nappa leather. Only black standard leather.

The wolf grey paint color and the dune brown nappa leather are also not available for CANADA.

The SX Limited is available with either black or light grey nappa leather depending on which exterior color you choose.

So the top of the line model doesn't come equipped with nappa leather.

Thanks but no thanks! I'll wait for next year!
Hi,

I totally agree with you, that's a shame we can't get the same colors / interiors options here in Canada.
That being said I decided to go with a GWP Nightfall for the following reasons:
  • Nappa leather: I have Nappa leather in my KIA Stinger GT Limited. I love it but when I looked at a Telluride Nightfall interior in person I wasn't able to tell a difference with the leather I have in my Stinger. I you research Nappa leather you'll see there is no "certified" or "approved" process behind Nappa leather. At the end of the day they could just say "premium leather" and that would be the exact same thing. So any manufacturer can do what they want and say it's "Nappa".
  • Headliner: the fabric used in a SX Limited feels definitively more premium. Again I have the same thing in my Stinger and it's beautiful. But I think the headliner of the Nightfall it's still very nice. I think this type of alcantara fabric offers a real benefit when used for surfaces you're actually in contact with. I used to have alcantara seats in my Subaru STI 2008 and it was very comfortable. The contact with the skin was actually more comfortable than leather in my opinion. Since we don't touch headliners (at least I don't :P) I don't think that's a big issue not having that in the Nightfall.
  • Mags: I really prefer the mags of the Nightfall edition (by a lot!). If the Nightfall didn't exist I would have buy a new set of mags because I really don't like the ones that come with the SX Limited. For me they are more suited for a design like the one of the Hyundai Palissade. On a more "boxxy" look like the Telluride I think the more offroad look of the Nightfall mags is well suited. Of course you can buy new mags but for 20", if you're looking for something nice you'll have to pay probably more than the Nightfall package.
  • Blacked-out accents: same comment for me as for the mags. I really like the black chome and the black grille. Yes you can wrap those on a SX Limited but I think it just doesn't worth the trouble considering you can get the Nightfall and considering Nappa and headliner are not such important things (in my opinion)
  • Front-grille: one thing the Nightfall edition offers is a more aggressive front grille. Not something you can easily "fix" on the SX Limited. Personally I really prefer that grille that gives a more "offroader" look to the Telluride.
  • Black leather only: ok I was very disappointed with this one. Ideally I would have take the dune interior. But again for me the mags, front grille and the blacked accents are way more important. I think the black interior will be easier to keep clean at least.
So that's the reason why I decided to go with the Nightfall edition. It's a very personal choice obviously and again I would have been great to have more options in Canada.

Note: sorry for my english, not my first language ;)
