• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I thought I would just share that I have successfully installed HK door speakers in a non-HK 'S' trim. I wanted to keep as much of a stock feel as I could. I installed an Infinity component system in my 21 and felt like although I gained highs, I lost low end sound. So in my 22, I wanted to try to keep the lows without having to deal with adding an amp right now.

Anyways, there was a seller on ebay that had #2 HK 96330-S9200 available that I bought. This is the exact part number for the Telluride HK system. I could not find another set of HK's from a Telluride so I ended up trying #2 HK 96330-J5000 from a Palisade. To be honest, I have no idea what the difference is between the two, but upon inspecting them visually, I couldn't identify any differences and they look exactly the same to me. The J5000 speakers seem to be also used in the Stinger's HK system. However, the J5000 fit perfectly, with the mounting ring matching all the holes and the 2 guide posts slotted exactly in the door. I couldn't tell a sound difference the S9200 and J5000 personally...but thats subjective.

**If you do this, note that the factory speaker harness has plastic guides that do not match up with the speakers. The guides on the harness are a bit wider than the connector on the speaker (I assume for ease of installation at the assembly plant and to not mix up speakers?). I used my Dremel and grinded down the guides on the harness and they fit the speaker connector without a problem. Everything then clicks in and bolts up without any other modifications, so I would call the job a success.

Result: I am pleased with them...and I do think it sounds better and added additional low end bass.

I am the worst at taking pictures, in life in general, but especially in the middle of a project. I took pics of the speaker through the door. Notice that the center of the speaker is not bubbled like the non-HK speakers. I also took a picture of an example of the harness I grinder down (this was cut from my 21 that I no longer have) but simply was used to experiment on.

i took a video but am not tech challenged to know how to attach it on here. It looks to only allow me to post pictures not videos

Do you think this solved the sub par system? Does it sound much better after this? I am looking into a telluride ex and I am disappointed in the sound in this vehicle. I have a Subaru now with hk sound and it sounds much better quality than the telluride sound system. I don’t want to spend thousands extra on sx if replacing speakers is doable and makes a big difference. Thanks

To be honest after driving with them for awhile. I do think it’s an improvement over stock but I certainly wouldn’t call them a huge change. The system is still limited by being underpowered without an amp and only 6 speakers. I got the speakers on eBay for a pretty good deal which is a fraction of the OEM dealership price. For the small price I paid I’m satisfied. But it would not at all be worth it to pay dealer pricing.
