• THIS SECTION IS ONLY FOR DISCUSSIONS RELATING TO BUYING A TELLURIDE. PLEASE USE A DIFFERENT SECTION FOR POSTING MESSAGES ABOUT ANYTHING OTHER THAN BUYING A TELLURIDE. THANK YOU!

  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... We are hoping to buy an SX AWD at the end of the month and it looks like we might have to travel a little bit to get one. I am fine with that because I really don't want to pay an astronomical price over MSRP. I have never bought a car in such a high demand/low inventory. What types of tips can you offer me to help me with online/email/phone negotiations before I drive up to 4 hrs one way to find it's a waste of my time?

I bought an Outback out of state when that model year was first introduced. Very high demand sellers market. Similar to the current stare of affairs with the Telluride.

I factory ordered it and did everything via email and obtained the purchase order. Waited 2 months to take delivery with no surprises. Found this dealer through an online forum, such as this. This dealer had a reputation to offer fantastic internet deals.

So do some internet research, including this forum, to determine if the dealer you’ll be dealing with has a good or bad review/reputation and then get everything in writing.

You can also go the pre-negotiated/purchase program route if that option is available and financially viable, ie Costco, AAA, Insurance Co, etc.

We live in Vermont, bought ours in New Hampshire, 2 1/2 hours away, rebates in May, plus a $800,00 discount, call around, make the drive!

Search carguru and use their email/messaging feature, works great. I bought mine in MI, reside in CA and having it shipped for $1600 which is worth it to me given the long waits and over MSRP greed around here.

Bought mine in WA, shipping to my home state of AK, among other reasons to avoid the $4,995 “Alaska Package” dealer markup. Found a great dealer online and had an excellent purchase experience thus far.

We do not have a local Kia dealer as we live in a rural area so looked at 16 Georgia dealers to buy our Telluride SX with prestige. It was worth the hour plus drive for us. We worked out the deal via email and phone and then went to the dealer to pick it up. So far we have been very pleased with our Telluride, best vehicle that we have ever owned!

I am in CA too. How does it work buying a car out of state when we have different emission standards?
