California Telly Owners! *tips, recommendations, etc.*

we shipped via open trailer - if you go a few posts back on this thread, I wrote about the price, experience and auto transport contact info. Hope that helps
Nice, could have just shared what you paid instead of putting effort into telling a person to go look for it in a previous post. BTW forum it was $1,200.

Sharing my experience:

11/4: received email that my car was on the lot as of yesterday (believe I got someone else's cancelled order, so no heads-up with ETA)
11/5: received initial paperwork via email, photos via text, arranged time to speak with finance manager on the phone for next business day (Mon)
11/8: phone call with finance manager, offered upsell for warranties, tint, etc.
11/9: received paperwork requiring wet signatures via overnight delivery from i25
11/10: changed my mind on ordered tint, finance manager had to re-do paperwork and re-send
11/11: received updated paperwork, signed, mailed back
11/12: received heads-up that truck would be picking up my SUV for transport on Mon 11/15 Fri 11/12 (it was picked up early)

Overall, it will be 8 business days from the day I was notified to the car being picked up for shipping. However, I lost a couple days with changing my mind on the tint. I think it's fair to say you could complete the transaction in a week, then maybe expect another week for shipping so 2 weeks total. FYI I paid in cash via wire transfer so didn't have to mess with waiting on financing.

Similar timeline with i25 , very efficient considering I’m an out of state buyer.
Day 1 your telluride has arrived
Day 2 finance zoom call and virtual sign
Day 3 original doc received via fedex overnight to “wet sign”
Day 4 email Kia finance congrats on purchase
Drop off wet signed docs fedex

Tomorrow they will confirm transport schedule

Ah that's definitely a lot smoother than my experience. I received a week earlier than you and the vehicle has only been picked up today.

Did you finance? I paid cash via wire transfer so no waiting on financing to come through prior to arranging transport. I also think I just got lucky with the transport as the car was picked up by the truck 3 days earlier than they originally stated...

Somehow the broker did completely screw up the delivery address, though, and tried to deliver my SUV to a city 4 hours away... ultimately that had no impact as they still delivered, but seems like a very, very basic logistical thing the broker should not have screwed up!

I did finance, and it is a fairly straightforward process for me, instant approval. It does take some time back and forth due to some issue with the check so it does drag the process longer, which could've been avoided... I'll share my experience a bit later.

Also, my car arrived today!

Is it due to weekend? The UPS next day air "saver" only works on biz days. I also experienced these.

Just finished with DMV this morning - here's how it went:

We completed a SMOG test, and collected all the paperwork that i25 sent to us via FedEx. As part of the paperwork with i25, we had already filled out REG 343. They sent that back to us along with Colorado title/Registration, copy of our Purchase Agreement. We also brought paperwork from the Auto Transport with date of delivery to us, Proof of Insurance, as well as SMOG certificate. We paid cash to i25 for just the car, no CA taxes.

DMV experience - total time at DMV was between 1 & 1.5 hours.

It is annoyingly difficult to schedule DMV appointment on-line - I couldn't figure out on DMV website how to book for out-of-state vehicle registration, so I called to book appointment. At least they have a new "call back" feature, so you don't have to listen to the hold music for a long time.

We arrived just in time for our 10am appt - had to wait in line to check-in, and then were informed we needed to get the vehicle inspection first. So we drove the car over to the waiting area (near where Drivers tests are administered) - waited about 10min until someone came out to inspect. She filled out "Verification of Vehicle" form (REG 31). Needed to show her our Colorado Registration form (which i25 sent us).

Went back to check-in line, and were given a wait number. I'd say we waited about 20min - not sure if we had just arrived about 20min ahead of our Appt and went to get in line for Vehicle Inspection if it would have gone faster? At the counter they only really looked at the form 343, Colorado Title, Purchase agreement etc. Didn't need to see SMOG, Auto Transport paperwork or Insurance. They took our Title/343 form, we paid our CA registration & CA sales tax. Paid via check - as they charge 2.3% fee for credit card and debit/ATM cards. Got our plates & tags, and CA Title will be mailed in about 30 days.

Done!

When reading from some other threads (see below) I was under the impression that i25 sends reg343 & other materials to CA DMV, and CA DMV will send them to you? It seems you received these straight ahead. Is this due to you paid cash without finance so you get the title yourself?

Yes and no. Saver should have gotten it there a day earlier. I think a guy lost it in his delivery truck for a day or two

When DMV receives the paperwork, they do not forward them to you. They usually try to start the registration process, unless you go to DMV office first. If you go to DMV before paperwork arrives, then you start the process first and may have to come back when paperwork arrives. You have 20 days from when car enters CA.

okay. Apparently it took me more than 20 days after signing to actually get the car. I'll likely have to argue with them that the vehicle only entered CA when it was picked up on Tue. I was trying to avoid two trips but guess I'd be proactive.

Don’t have to argue about dates, they usually accept your word and you have delivery documents anyway. Check if dealer already sent paperwork.

Finally finished everything! Not the most straightforward experience and lots of hiccup. Overall it took me 4.5 months from order to car at doorstep. Figured I'd share my timeline:
  • 7/1 ordered through i25, placed $500 refundable deposit.
  • 8/18 salesperson confirmed that order is filled. ETA 11/14.
  • 10/27 car at dealership, started to apply for loan, quote insurance etc
  • 10/28 signed a few documents with dealership
  • 10/29 chatted with financing person and went through add-ons. Sent PO for me to finalize my loan
  • 10/30 - 11/2, wait for dealership to prepare documents and sent. The documents are sent 11/2 via UPS overnight and arrived at 11/3.
  • 11/3 received the documents but had a big issue: they reversed my FN / LN. Had to call them and have they resent.
  • 11/4 new package arrived, but I was busy and missed UPS delivery cutoff. Had to wait to next day.
  • 11/5 sent signed documents back. Since it's Friday, UPS said will only arrive on Monday. Called bank to send the check over to dealership. The bank advised me to sign a Docusign doc online to authorize the check so I don't need to sign it personally, such that they can send it directly to dealer - was hoping to save a few days. Also worked with shipping company to schedule a pick up next Wed.
  • 11/9 both documents and the check arrived. However, dealership insisted my signature is needed, even though bank confirmed I won't need to (there was a document along with the check saying I authorize the deposit). Dealer sent back for me to sign.
  • 11/10 received the check, signed and sent back. Was told if the check passed, it can be released on Friday. Reschedule shipping to Friday.
  • 11/11 signed check arrived - I didn't realize its veteran's day and nobody is at office and they can't get the check deposited until next day. Had to call shipping to reschedule again to Mon.
  • 11/12 Check worked, tried my luck to see if any driver is available to pick up, and they would need a 2-day window.
  • 11/16 Shipping contact promised I'll get call from driver when it was picked up but I didn't get any. Used the UVO link app to see car is moving at some point ... confirmed with sales that it is picked up.
  • 11/17 No news of shipping progress, UVO link doesn't seem to update accurately, the car was constantly stuck at Cheyenne. Got a call late afternoon and said car will be delivered next day!
  • 11/18 Car is delivered! Went ahead to book DMV & smog check appointment. Filled out reg 343.
  • 11/19 Smog check + DMV visit in a row. It's surprisingly smooth process and I walked out with my CA plates.
This is my first time buying a car out of state. Thanks to a lot of folks advice here it worked out well at the end. Appreciate to y'all that shared your experience and answered my questions!

Congrats! I’m a few days behind you. Waiting on transport

I am less than two weeks aways from receiving my Wolf Grey SXP which I have purchased from I-25. I live in north cal and I have been given quotes of $1300 for open and $1800 for enclosed transportation. I am just wondering if you guys think the extra $500 for enclosed transport is worth it or not. I would also love to hear about your experiences with the transportation.

Thanks!

I did open and it exceeded my expectation. When I got the car it’s not even as dusty as car parked at my drive way, I wonder if they washed it before they deliver to me.

I did covered and received it Sunday! I went covered because I wanted it to show up perfect. When your telluride gets delivered to the dealer it is uncovered but they have protective coverings to prevent damage. They remove the covering to wash it at the dealership. I have seen various uncovered transports and thought the Telly could get scratched, dinged or chipped depending its location on the transport. So I imagine it can be very YMMV. In short, my experience delivered in 27 hours from pick up and it was transported with only one other vehicle (Ferarri!).

Thanks @svm and @JRebel fo sharing your experiences! Would you mind sharing the names of the transportation companies that were assigned to you as well? It seems that I-25 works with a broker that assigns different companies to different customers on a random basis. Did you do any research on the companies that were assigned to you?

I live in the SF Bay Area, I too ordered from I-25 in CO. I was also quoted $1,300 for an open transport. I received the vehicle two nights ago, its super dirty, however after inspecting I do not see any paint chips or marks. I plan to take to a local shop to have them do paint correection, apply Paint Protection Film, ceramic window tints and then apply a ceramic coating to the paint as well. The car will shine better than it arrived at the dealer from day 1. When my vehicle arrived, it was placed in the middle of the truck with the front facing the front of the truck. Luckily, no damage noted. That's my experience.

So I think although your ride showed up dirty you found a great use for the money you saved!
