• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... After doing some initial research, I cannot find any protective plastic for the chrome piece in the back of the trunk just before the bumper (picture below). Weathertech has some scratch protection packages but it doesn't look like this area is included. Maybe I'm not using the right key words in my search?

In either case, has anyone come up with a solution for this? These pieces tend to get really banged up over time. I actually wish I didn't have this to be honest.

You want to protect the protector? That piece is there to resist scratches that would otherwise be very visible in black plastic. It's not visible when the hatch is closed, what's the big deal?

Personal preference… I’ve seen a bunch of older QX80s that have the same protector and they always look so dinged up after a few years. You see it every time you open the trunk, which is a lot, and it doesn’t look good. You notice the scratches and scuff marks way more on the metal than you would if this was black plastic. I have a 2013 highlander that has plastic back there and it’s much nicer over time.

The plastic they use in the KIA, it would be a mess in short time in this area. My guess is why they went with the metal. The Audi Q5 has the same configuration. As arattle says, it's there to take the abuse. Weathertech makes this but I can see it being a nuisance, at least for me.

I agree about this being a nuisance. I’m just looking for clear plastic. Thanks though!

You could buy some 3M protective film on Amazon and cut it to fit.
