• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Has anyone had an oil leak problem on there Telluride after an oil change - seems the oil plug and crush washer may be weak or the techs dont know how to torque the plug properly or are not changing the crush washer - just want to know if others have experienced this problem. ??- Thanks

I like using Fumoto Valve’s on my vehicles. It drains out slower and less messy. Put it on once and never cross thread or over torque a drain plug ever again.

I actually just bought this for my first oil change. Anything to look out for during install or is it pretty easy?

Which on did you buy? F106SX? It is easy can only be installed in one direction due to the design of the oil pan. I changed the oil the other day and it work well.

I see a lot of them posted on the website that say they will work with the Telluride. Which model works best?

This is most likely a service problem: bolt washer, bolt.
There may still be cracks around the hole if the bolt is not tightened along the thread. Again, this is the dealer's problem.

Correct I got the F106SX.
Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere. When you installed the F106SX, did you also use the crush washer or no?

I didn't. There's a rubber gasket already on the F106SX.

Thank you!

Did you torque it to the F106SX spec (18 ft/lbs) or the telluride drain plug spec (which apparently ranges from 25-33 ft
lbs)?

i didn't torque the fumoto...if it drips i will tighten some more....i have one on my 2013 legacy and i haven't touched it since i installed it in 2013...didn't torque that one either...fumoto install images in thread below...had to trim plastic shield...

IMHO, so many variables with the new oil filter housing! Different techs, dealerships, torque wrenches that may be out of calibration, unskilled, inexperienced techs, the fragile plastic housing, misplacement of O ring, etc! I miss the old style screw-in filter already! I warned my son about this! I suggested he just better stick to his mechanic who took care of his car for the past 8 years, He just bought a new car. Dealership gave him free oil changes.

No, I did not use a torque wrench. I just went by "feel", approx 1/4 turn after finger tight.
I've done 4 other installs before and didn't use a torque wrench on all of them ... and haven't had any issues/leaks.

Additionally, I did not cut out the plastic under carriage trim that some folks here have done. So that may be a preference for you depending on how it sits with your drain valve.

Does your sit at a different angle that does not require to trim it? If so mind sharing what position you used or a picture 😁

Here's a pic (not mine...pc: @elburroloco2000) of the same position I did on mine without cutting the trim.

And here's another thread where they cut out the trim on their installation.

Thank you so much I appreciate it! Going to install mine on the next oil change. 👍🏽 This helps a lot. Looking at the picture doesn’t it look like when you go to turn the handle to release all the oil it’s going to shoot it all on top of the cover? Maybe it’s the angle of the picture
