Motorola MA1 Wireless Android Auto - how to disconnect?

I'm liking this unit for the most part. My Google Pixel 5 connects in about 15 seconds, which is great. I have it set up with Waze on 2/3 of the screen, and SiriusXM on the right part of the screen. Love that setup for most driving scenarios. The fixed cord is kind of dumb, but I was able to mount the unit to the underside of the lid over the charging compartment. You can't close the lid without unplugging the unit, but I never close the lid, so no big deal. I can see the status light from the driver's seat.

The only annoyance is that it stays connected for a while after turning off the Telly and going inside. Sometimes my phone shows Waze still running, along with Android Auto. Sometimes it spends a couple minutes searching for Android Auto, then gives up. This is annoying when I want to listen to something through my phone - it's still connected to the Telly. There doesn't seem to be a way to disconnect, you have to wait for it to time out. There's no way to manually disconnect, you have to wait for the USB outlet to stop power in the Telly? This is my first experience with Android Auto, so I'm probably just missing something.

turn off your wifi and bluetooth when you go into the house? Typically wireless android auto devices use wifi as a hotspot so it's probably connected to your phone that way when you leave the car.

I haven't found a way yet...mine stays connected as well. Worse, was on a work call yesterday and was wandering around the garage, opened the car door to get something....bluetooth kept connecting to the MA-1 for the next 10 minutes, I couldn't get it to stop until I ended up turning off bluetooth off on the phone. Brutal.

I have AAWireless and my phone stays connected until the port powers down. I usually unplug the AAWireless when I turn off the car.

Works the same with Carlinkit for carplay. Power to the wireless unit stays on for several minutes after the car is turned off. For iPhone, we can enable WiFi on the phone and it will disconnect from wireless Carplay.

You can buy an OBD2 USB charger. From what I've read that port is hot. It plugs underneath the steering wheel area

If you're handy with setting up custom rules, you could look into the app suite called Tasker. I don't have experience with the wireless androidauto kit, but if it works over wifi as everyone is saying, it should be a simple rule to set up.

In Tasker for example you could set up a rule that says essentially "IF TellyBluetooth disconnects (this should happen when you shut off and exit the car) THEN disconnect AndroidAuto wifi (whatever the wifi name is for the wireless AA)" and that should solve the issue. You could then set up the reverse rule to connect to the AA wifi when you connect to the TellyBluetooth (which should happen automatically when you turn on the vehicle).

Maybe too much of a workaround for most people but I would personally set that up and it shouldn't take but a minute. But to be fair, I use custom Tasker rules for a lot of things so it's second nature to me and hardly an inconvenience.

Absolutely should be. Or else diagnostic tools wouldn't work without the motor running which could be quite an issue since many issues could prevent the motor from running.

Folks I've read use it for their dashcams. I have one of these port chargers but haven't tested it on the telluride yet. I guess the next solution would be a battery pack.

Got this today from Amazon and it works well. Tested both the USB-A and USB-C outlets on it. Of course, accessing under the dash isn't as easy as the other power points, but it's not too bad.

Interestingly, the USB port that you plug Motorola MA1 dongle into seems to be energized again whenever you open a door. All other ports need the ACC switch turned on to get power. Not sure why the USB port acts that way.
