• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Today is Night Ranger's One Year Birthday, so I figured what better time than today to post my one year review? Due to some illnesses, I haven't been able to drive the car as much as I hoped, but, still, I have just under 7,000 miles on the car, so I think that's enough for a good review.

Night Ranger was "conceived" on September 19, 2020. On that day, I took a ride to Nutley Kia, because of their good reputation and the fact that they were selling at MSRP. Night Ranger is an Ebony Black/Gray Interior Nightfall SX-P model with AWD and Towing Package. At Nutley Kia, I met with Ken Nicosia (he posted a few times here under the name Sunjet1021). On that day, every Telluride on the lot was sold, so he couldn't allow me to take a test drive, but he was nice enough to let me sit behind a fully loaded SX-P. We then spent the next half hour cranking up the radio in the car, and Ken hooked up his phone, while we rocked out to some great classic rock. I had a blast, and Ken was a straight shooter.

Unfortunately, Ken tragically passed away five days after I placed my order with him, which likely led to some delays in getting the order fulfilled. The order was transferred to Chris Martino, who was also an excellent salesman. Night Ranger arrived at Nutley Kia on March 11, 2021, and I picked up the car on March 13, 2021 (which is why I'm counting today as Night Ranger's Birthday).

The second Chris pulled my car around, I fell in love. It was even more beautiful than I imagined. But would the honeymoon last? Read on...

I was a nervous wreck driving the 40 miles home, as I had always driven sedans before, but I quickly got comfortable with the Telluride. It drives beautifully. The power is just right. I wouldn't mind a few more ponies, but it would be for fun, not necessity. That heads-up display? Awesome. I'll never buy another car without one. The audio system? Again, it's fine, very good, even. No, it's not what you'd find in a top-of-the-line Mercedes S-Class, but it's a solid system. The seats? Very comfortable. Build quality? Outstanding for the class. More on that in a bit...

So, over the past year, I have gotten to know Night Ranger quite well, and, I have to say, I think I'm more in love today than I was when I first got the car. We had a little argument seven weeks in, when a rock from a dump truck chipped my windshield. It was two tiny dings, right next to each other, and I went to Nutley Kia to have them file a claim with Kia. The claim was (allegedly?) denied, so, since the chip was so small, I paid Nutley Kia the $150 to repair it. The windshield has been fine since. It just looks like two tiny raindrops stuck in the glass, and fortunately they're on the passenger's side.

Now here's all the other problems I've had with the car...

Aside from the chip in the windshield, the car has been perfect. I have not had one problem other than that. The seats? Not a crease in them. (The leather in both my two top trim Accords creased after a month.) Everything is as solid as Day 1. The stereo? Still crankin', with Ken's spirit beside me. Infotainment system crashes? None. This car is just awesome. Everything still works perfectly.

Are there any flaws? I really have to nitpick. The glove compartment is a bit small. Another 2MPG and another 2 gallons in the gas tank would have been nice. (I'm averaging 21 MPG, and that's with a lot of playing in the car in Park. Not bad.) The instrumentation is nice, but I would have preferred a customizable, full digital display. And that's all I can think of for now...

So, in summing up, this is the best car I have ever owned. I absolutely love it, and I would buy another one (assuming they don't mess it up with a refresh/remodel) in a second. Check here and on the Facebook groups for MSRP dealers (if you're in Jersey, Nutley Kia is it), get your order in, have a few drinks during the wait, and enjoy this car when you get it.

P.S. I was going to post some current pictures, but we had some solid snow last night, and I'm getting rid of an old bed so Night Ranger hasn't been able to stay in the garage lately. I'll post pics one the car gets a bath.

I've had mine for 16 months and have put 23,000 miles on it. For the most part I agree with the above post. I had my windshield replaced. Unfortunately for Telluride drivers it's not a matter of if but when you will have it fail. As long as you avoid all road debri and large changes in temperatures, you should be mostly good. :sneaky: The gas mileage and gas tank size is too small for those that take longer trips. I am about through the honeymoon phase of this car and actually test drove a Genesis GV80 the other day. Too bad its really a 5 passenger vehicle. It would be nice if the 2023 hits some of the items this car is missing (better handling, nicer interior, more power).

I test drove a GV80. Styling is nice but thought $70k was too much money for the car. They do have a third row Advanced + but then with options, you’re approaching closer to $75k.

2.4 years for us. 31500 miles. 2 trips to FL and 1 to TN from IL. No real issues. Had windshield replaced of course. Doesn't heat up well in winter we have noticed-takes a long time is what I'm saying. Need to bring it in for that. 25-27 mpg on trips-K&N airfilter being used. Always notice about 2 mpg increase when using them. Other than that, all good. Oh except for paying for the stupid app to start it! 🤬🙂

The 3rd row is for non adults in that car. For a 7 passenger SUV that seats comfortably and isn't a land yacht, the Telluride has the market for this price.

Just took my sxp awd to the local mountain for skiing and what a nice surprise of how the car handled the curves and perfect engine brake going downhill. I was ready to switch over to manual mode to avoid burning the brakes as I did with other car but didn’t need to. For a big car with 5 people and skis/boots I was impressed.

The weekend before I rented a 21 Enclave Avenir to drive to Red Wood national parks. Comparing to the Telluride, I can see why the Telluride get such good ratings from all the reports.

I am going from a BMW X5 so I know it wont feel the same handling and braking. Perhaps it will surprise me.

Interior quality will be somewhat similar. The biggest difference will be the noticeable size difference inside, a class larger.

I compared the exterior specifications between the two and they seem almost identical. So im curious as to how they squeezed a third row into a car that’s roughly 194” in length. Happy that it’s 69” tall since I like driving high. Although the Telluride seems lower. Curious how it will drive though. I loved the way my beemer handled and braked. The Telluride’s acceleration seems slow with a 7.2 second 0-60.

It's not a BMW so if that's your benchmark, you'll be disappointed. It's simply a well rounded machine that punches into luxury car territory. It does everything very well. Don't compare exterior specs, a CX9 has similar exterior dimensions as the Telluride but in real life, is about the size inside as a sorento. The boxiness of the vehicle does wonders and has almost a truck-like openness to it with an upright windshield, relatively short dash and wide stance.

So did I... once you get used to the Tellmeride, you will forgot about the X5.
Just came up on my 30K service on my Telluride. $78. Of course I didn't go for the all the dealer ad ons but for a BMW, you looking at $300-500. I've owned BMW sedans for years, so it's unfair to compare the handling and performance.

Also unfair comparing sports sedans to SUVs.

Can’t wait for cheaper maintenance. Hope reliability is solid as I’ve never experienced Kia brand.

Hi, have a 2020 with 24k miles. Love it.
Have been getting around 24 mpg hwy.
Can you tell me what the K & N air filter is?
Is that a dealer item?
Taking road trip soon and need to max out mpg with those high gas prices
Thanks

When you take your car in for servicing, do you refer to it by "Night Ranger" to the service advisors?;) Made me think of this thread.

Haven’t yet. Maybe I will next time though!
