  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... In January, I hit a deer with my 2021 Telluride S trim. I posted the details on this thread on this forum. That thread (on page 2) posts the work order (and cost) for the repair. It was a whopping $10,000+. However, the work by the collision repair company was impeccable and flawless. Very happy with how it turned out.

My question is this. Will this incident have any effect on the resale value of my Telluride?

Unfortunately, yes, it will show up on a Carfax, which can be detrimental to its value. Luckily for you the current environment may offer a chance to get out fairly unscathed if you should choose to sell and buy another (if you have the means and patience for that.)

I agree with the above. In theory, it will show up as a collision repair and affect trade-in/resale value. In practice, in this market, I doubt it’ll make too much difference. Probably a bigger deal in regards to a trade, where a dealer will try to use it to offer less.

In a private sale, I would disclose it and provide documentation that the repair was done properly and by a legitimate company. Some time ago I sold a pickup that had been hit when it was just a couple years old. The buyer figured that it wasn’t a big deal because a) the repair was done by the dealer’s collision repair people using OE parts, and b) I had been driving it for about eight years after that.

If it was reported to the DMV by the repair shop then yes, it will affect resale value as there's a mark on the car history.

Yes, of course. This is why people make diminished value claims on their repaired cars.

With Carfax and their competitors, the history is all out there to see. Any accident repair that shows up will be a red flag to potential buyers. And if it is a more serious accident, even more so. Google diminished value. Its important!

The current market is a bubble. It will pass. When it does, dealers and buyers will get more and more picky.

I remember reading your thread. Not offering advise here. Just wondering if you’ve decided to get rid of your Telly.

It crosses my mind at times, but not seriously moving in that direction yet. Last year when I purchased it in June, we went from a 2019 Honda Insight (a hybrid) with an EPA of 49 mpg highway and 55 mpg city to this Telluride. Every time I fill up the gas tank, which is now costing about $70, I cringe. But the Telluride is so nice to drive, especially on our long trips which we make twice a year to the Midwest (from Washington state) and then down to Texas (College Station near Houston) and back.

We've added a lot of extras to it, such as LED lights, an after market Kurt hitch with a 7-pin connector, tinted windows, paint protection film on the entire front and portions of the side to protect again rock chips.

I see. I’m not a fan of the gas mileage either, though it is a really nice ride. We have an 8cyl Jeep and both of these cars manage about 12 mpg. Which is ridiculous. But we’re mostly driving around town. It would be great to experience the 20+ mpg. 49-55 mpg is something I can’t even imagine!
