• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey Everyone,

Just got my permanent plates from the DMV and went to remove the (out-of-state) dealer-installed temp tag. One of the bolts was sticking out a good way upon removing it, and I've since discovered the female portion is likely galled due to improper installation by the dealership.

I don't really want to go through the hassle of bringing this in for repair as it is a fairly simple fix, but I am curious if anyone has a source for the exact thread that is used for the Telluride license plates. I've found one source that claims it is M6 x 1, but isn't validated with the OEM site. Does anyone know the screw size so I can get my license plate back on properly?

I have had dealers use any screw they can find and then cross thread them just to get the tag on. No guarantee if you do get the right screw, it will go in easy. (thats what she said). Sorry Michael Scott ;)

Well I would recommend using the screw that goes in correctly and go to the hardware store and buying a tap that matches that thread and attempting to retap the hole that has the threads all mauled up.

Well, turns out the dealership installed the wrong screw entirely. The part number 12493-05207E does not look anything the screw they installed, which ended up being M6 1.0. About to tap it. Wish me luck.

Sorry for the old thread quote, but this seems relevant. Are you saying the rear plate screws should be M6? Mine didn't come with them so trying to find how I can quickly and/or cheaply procure them.

My dealer did the same. One thread is OK, the other is wonked and the screw is a bit loose now. So far everything is staying in place but I need to take the time to see if I can fix it.

For those coming across this later who weren't supplied with any, M6x3/4" indeed was the right.

I got these but they should be easy to find.
