• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The 2023 Towing Saga Part 2 - Finally good news!

@tyger23 where you able to locate the in cabin connector for a wired electronic brake controller on your 2023?
I have not tried yet - but the instructions indicate that it's similar to the 2020-2022 installations. I don't expect it to be a major issue.

As Tyger mentioned, the 4 pin white connector for brake controller is under dash by fuse box, same as previous years

Great write-up and pictures. Very helpful, my part order is in and I'm a week into the "waiting" phase. I did install a '22 hitch as I liked that it is higher off the ground and has a built-in bracket for the 7-pin. For those of you who are questioning brake controllers, there is an option to put the controller in the trailer (not car) that negates the need to wire up a separate controller. I have one in my teardrop trailer, it's called Autowbrake and it sits in the trailer and it uses the brake signal from the tow vehicle to activate the trailer brakes. It does require a 12v feed but that should come automatically from the 7-pin. I get that some of you ordered a brake controller from the factory - just giving an option to those who don't have one installed and might want to in the future to save install headaches. The drawback of course is that the controller is wired into the trailer and not the vehicle, but if you only pull one trailer this may be an option for you. On the other hand, if you have a need to tow the trailer with different vehicles it doesn't require each tow vehicle to have its own brake controller. I have no skin in the game with the company, just passing along information.

To tyger23, you are the man!
Thank you so much for doing all the "dirty" work for us and documenting it so nicely. I'm sure whoever wants to do it will appreciate it very much, I will. My harness which I ordered from the same place as you is already in the NY Distribution Center so I should see it at my door Monday or Tuesday.

2020Telly For some reason, I can’t write you an answer quoting your message. Thank you so much for such a complete answer, I think it will be useful for a lot. I made an order Kia/Hyundai S8F67-AC800 , but they told me that it is not available and I need to wait about 5 weeks, but I think it will be much longer. And I think about an additional quick solution that I could tow as early as possible.

do u need at 7 pin or 4 pin???

there are a couple options for 4 pin harness ….Curt an Etrailer.

So my towing problem is over... got the harness from Canada, waited for it less than 2 weeks. It came yesterday, installed it today. It's 7 pin but I really need only 4 pin so I got this adapter from Amazon 7 pin to 4 and 5 pin. I'm set for any towing, well, except that I don't have trailer brake controller and have no plans to spend over $100 to get one. I don't have any plans to tow any trailer with brakes and if that changes I'll buy and install one, it's very easy to hook it up. Thanks to everybody who contributed to this thread with all your knowledge

How much are you paying for the Canada harness??

It came to around $180US

So as of today, what are 2023 owners still missing from piecing together a full OEM hitch setup? Just the OEM plastic bumper trim piece that matches the hitch and 7 pin plug?

My point being, what advantages are there for waiting until KIA installs them at a dealership vs doing what you guys did and piece it all together?

I have a HUGE need to tow, but want it installed and to look OEM…

It sort of depends on how fussy you are. I installed the hitch and cut the bumper cover to fit around the hitch. To me it looks good and I'm fussy as ever. On the other hand without doing that I couldn't tow which made me hate the car. I will buy the companion bumper cover when available and install. I'm still waiting on the harness but you can see where it attaches in the pics.

This looks awesome, and is a great solution while waiting on the factory bumper cover. I will say, however, you're going to need to cut out a bit more of the bumper cover once the harness arrives. This is because the wiring harness lid will flip up to allow the trailer wiring to insert. That lid will get blocked by the bumper cover as shown in your current pictures. Not a big deal - just something you'll have to plan for once the harness arrives and is installed. Looks like a great solution, though.

Yeah, I planned on cutting more once I got the harness. I didn't want to guess where it would be located.

Exactly as Tyger said I had to cut mine about 2 inches more to be able to open the cover. It still looks good though. You really have to bend down there to see those cut outs. My towing is all OEM since, besides the harness from Canada, I also installed OEM hitch (from ebay). Honestly, if they ever come up with bumper insert I don't think I'd bother to replace it, will see...

The advantage I see to a proper 2023 bumper insert might be more space around the hitch receiver to put something like hitch tightener or just have more space around it in general. But otherwise, great way to make lemonade out of lemons.

I have seen the templates for the trailer bumper cover cutouts but does someone have one for the OEM with the 7 pin plate? thanks.

Got my 7-pin wiring harness from Hyundai yesterday and installed it today. Ordered Feb 17, arrived at my door June 6. Easy install, and works perfectly. The system also disables the autonomous braking in reverse and silences the constant warnings so you don't have to manually do it in the settings. The kit is made for the Palisade so some of the instructions don't apply but it's easy to figure it out. Finally happy.
