• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The 2023 Towing Saga Part 2 - Finally good news!

i saw a post about the rolling away recall. someone had it done and they were told if they had their bike rack on their hitch, that they couldnt back up because the software update will engage the parking brake? anyone else hear of this?

i sure hope thats not true because how will you hook up a trailer or a boat or anything that you need to back up to hook up to tow them??!!

i had the update/recall performed a few weeks ago and havent tried to hook up my boat yet, so i guess i'll put that on the list to see if that is true... i sure hope not!

I had the fix done. The only difference is the parking brake is automatically applied when the car is in park and automatically released when you shift out of park. No problems.

Following this post because I have a 2024 Telluride SX X-line Prestige made before Oct 2023 that I want to install the tow hitch (dealer wants $1900). Does anyone know the power latch part # to use? I tried ordering 81800-S9600CCC (Power Latch Assembly) and it shows as discontinued. The only part I can find is - Kia 81800S9100 Power Latch Assembly (2020-2024 Kia Telluride). Does anyone know if this is the new part that supersedes the old one?

Is the latch really necessary? What does it do that the original one does not?

I installed my hitch and wiring and didn’t replace the latch. Works as it should. 🤷‍♂️

My Curt hitch is not involved at all with the latch in my December-built 2024. No part of it is anywhere near the latch. Total cost including dealer install of the wiring harness was a bit over $500.

I dimly recall reading that the latch issue had something to do with crash testing. Maybe the etrailer guys would know?

Unfortunately not. I don't understand why that isn't able to be purchased separately without the whole tow kit.

Unfortunately the dealer threw away the original bumper plate when they installed my hitch.

It looks like my cheapest option is to buy the S9F61-AU100 kit for ~$400
Well I finally found and got the bumper plate last month from one of the kia online parts places. Huzzah! However, I've left it in the box because the instructions show actual loosening of the tire, tow hitch, etc. I'm a little loathe to do that because I'm not sure about doing it without jacks and without being confident in my torque etc etc. I finally got it out to see if I could do it without taking loosening everything and see if I could jam it in. This is about the best I could do unless I severely bend the top tabs in this picture in an attempt to fit it under the bumper above it. This is because the trim piece sits between the hitch and the bumper and without the hitch lowered slightly I can't easily fit the tabs into the bumper (and then lift the hitch back up). Alternatively, I could trim off those tabs because I'm not sure they are necessary for holding it in although maybe they help keep it secure over time. Or maybe they will handle a severe bending to get in?

Anyone have any thoughts or do I just need to see if I can pay the dealer for the labor here for the next recall I take it in for.

I'd say don't remove the tabs. Though the piece isn't heavy, it will be subject to a lot of wind + rain + snow, as it sits at the bottom of the bumper.

I just got my part as well. Due to the position of the electrical connector, I will have to cut out some of the plastic to allow all of the tabs to align properly.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm want to get a hitch put on my 2023 and am trying to figure out what I need. I missed out on the dealer promo.
