• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi, Not sure where to place this. Kinda hot at the moment. Have a 2023 SX prestige that I had a OEM hitch (for a Yakima bike / storage rack system) and an after market 4 pin electrical placed several months ago. Went to the dealer to have usual service and they notified it had 2 recalls to be completed.

Ok.

After they applied the two recall services, they informed me that with the parking brake software update, I would no longer be able to move in reverse with the bike rack in place as the computer senses it as an obstacle and applies the emergency breaking to prevent collision. In other words, cant ever park in a place that's not pull through like my driveway in front of my townhouse with the bike rack attached.

Prior to the fix the emergency brake would activate and depressing the break pedal and holding would release the emergency brake and allow me to continue in reverse.

Any one have this issue? They are advising that I can call the consumer affairs division for Kia to complain about this issue and cant un-apply the recall fix!

I know for a fact that if a boat is hooked up. It will not back up if the trailer harness is not plugged in. Maybe try hooking up one of those hitch lights that go in the receiver. Yes, you won’t be able to put in the receiver, but, attach some other way.

When I have my bike rack on my 2024 it always senses that it is an obstacle and applies the emergency braking to prevent a collision. I end up having to turn off the functionality every time I have the bike rack on and want to drive in reverse. These are the steps via the entertainment screen:
  • Start vehicle
  • Press Setup Button
  • Select Vehicle
  • Under the Vehicle Setting image - select Parking Safely
  • Under Parking Safely scroll down and deselect Rear Safety and Rear Cross Traffic Safety
All setting reset to default when you turn off the vehicle. It is a total pain to have to go through these steps every time. Someone in another chat said that just pressing the Parking Alert button to turn off the light would work. It does not work for me. I remove the bike rack after every bike ride as it such a total pain to disable.

Yes. This is a major defect in my opinion. I just called and was disconnected after being on hold for 20 minutes.

I just purchased a Kia Sportage and put my bike rack on and now have the same problem There has to be some way to shut it off completely. Not happy with the whole situation!!!
