All:
I'm loving my '24 SX-P X-Line except for one issue.
Kia Connect isn't working. The Telly won't receive remote commands-either from the app or the website. The app also shows the Telly's correct location intermittently. I tried the typical head unit reset, app reinstall, etc., with no success. So I called Kia Connect. We discovered that the modem's signal strength /RSSI sensitivity is low (around -90 dBM). The agent told me that this is somewhat common with a lot of new Kias. So they've opened a case and will be in touch. Meanwhile, I took the car to the dealership and asked the service dept. to disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes to see if that'd help. They did so, and the modem went to a normal sensitivity for awhile (-60 dBM), but revered back to -90 dBM within 15 mins. Meanwhile, the Kia signal shows between 2-5 bars depending on location.
Kia Connect tells me that firmware could possibly fix this issue, but we'll have to wait and see what the technical staff says. The agent feels bad and told me that Kia will offer me some compensation once the problem is resolved. She mentioned that without me asking, which I thought was really awesome.
A bit of surfing reveals that some non-Telly Kia owners have had modem replacements.
As far as I can tell, this issue is only affecting Kia Connect commands. Sirius, real-time live traffic, phone, remote start with the FOB, etc., are all working perfectly. Those are the biggies for me.
Question: If it turns out that the only fix is a modem replacement, I'm wondering if it's worth it. I probably wouldn't renew Kia Connect after the free first year. Also, I'm fearful that fiddling with the dash to replace the radio/modem risks getting my Telly back with rattles and creaks. So far, this Telly is completely quiet--free of rattles and creaks (which wasn't true for my previous Tellys). Rattles and creaks drive me crazy!
Thanks!
