• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

Do these vibrations occur on all road surfaces? Picked up a SXP last Friday and noticed a vibration on a portion of grooved highway doing around 70. Coincidentally had a Jaguar XJ AWD which also vibrated over this stretch but not as pronounced as the SXP. Have not encountered a vibration anywhere else.

Yes. All road surfaces.

Have you checked your tire pressure?

I have a white sxp awd with tow package that I received on July 23. Drove it on an interstate highway for 400 miles yesterday. The car ran smoothly and was quite. I love how this car drives. Average speed 75mph some stretch got it up as high as 89 mph. I did notice that with the lane keep assist, when you're to close to the lines it turns the wheel to keep it center and sometimes as a reflex there is a tendency to fight that and it could feel like a vibration.

Definitely not my issue. Mine occurs pretty much all the time from stop to 60 MPH. Thanks for the response.

Mine is specifically at speeds above 60mph but can also be heard when hitting most road imperfections. I'm sure it's my headliner. If I'm on the phone with someone when it happens, it's exceptionally loud to them but only minimal to me. The microphones are attached to the headliner, I believe, right by the front ceiling lights.

I returned mine to the dealer and requested they perform road force balancing whoch they did.
It revealed a tire with an issue, assumed sidewall problem. They replaced the tire and the issue has amost all but been resolved.
All of this was of course at no charge to me.
Its not a smooth as my last Sorento but perhaps it is just a different platform.
I';d now give the vehicle a 9 out of 10

Some say its from the tires, some say its from the headliner... so which one is it? Or is it two separate vibrations we are talking about here?

I am a new member here thinking hard about purchasing a Telluride in about 6 months. Came here to get a feel for how the vehicle is doing.

I doubt that the headliner is causing any vibration. It is more likely making a rattle sound due to the vehicle vibration. Pressing on it quiets the noise but the vibration would still be occurring though perhaps not felt.

I definitely think it is some other issue. The vibration I am speaking about is not something you hear or feel in your headliner. It is something I feel in the seat and floor. It definitely feels like a balancing issue or, as I’ve had issues before with other vehicles, torque converter problem. Going to go with the road force balancing to see if it corrects the problem. I will give feedback as soon as I have tried.

Could also be a driveshaft issue if all the problems are AWD models. On RWD the driveshaft can be 180 out of phase and just removing it and turning it 180 and reconnecting fixes it. That would usually happen at a certain RPM though and not at a speed.

That is a certainly a possible cause of vibration but it would absolutely be related to speed and not rpm. The driveshaft is connected to the rear wheels and would spin in sync with the rear wheel speed.

In theory you could put the vehicle in neutral and turn off the engine while going 70mph and the drive shaft will still be spinning at highway speed.

So you suggestion would be speed dependent and match the symptoms being described by everyone.

It would be an easy check by a service department. Removing a driveshaft for a test run should be fairly quick and easy.

The vehicle remains very quiet if the road is very smooth. I don't feel any obvious vibration at speed unless the road is bumpy or at least not perfectly smooth. All cars are dealing with road vibration. This is, to me, a specific area of the headliner that has what feels like a moisture barrier or some other sort of plastic film behind it. It sounds like that is where the noise is coming from. I get that vibration is required to make it but there isn't a vehicle on the road that doesn't deal with that vibration no matter what the tires are or suspension set up is. This vehicle rides extremely smooth to me. It's really hard to describe which is why I've scheduled an appointment with the master tech at the dealership so that we can take a ride and I can demonstrate it. I believe that this thread is discussing several different possible issues. I'm hoping that I can get an answer on mine. Unfortunately, I'll be taking a 4 day road trip prior to getting in for my appointment. Fortunately, this doesn't happen all of the time so I'm hoping to have a mostly quiet ride. I'll keep updating to let everyone know if there's a fix for this specific issue.

I am having the same vibration noise at any speed. Really annoying on the Interstate when the radio is off. It is coming from the overhead rear controls for climate that have the 2 lights. You can touch it anywhere on the unit and it immediately stops. Starts back as soon as you let go. Sometimes it will go away for a time then return and do it constantly. Going to setup appointment with dealer to get it fixed. Other than this, this SUV is the best vehicle I have ever owned. One other thing to note, when we first got home with it I had a squeak in the driver door when opening and closing. It turned out to be the insulation pushed out in the driver side quarter panel and was rubbing the door. I just lightly pushed it back in and problem solved.

This headliner vibration/noise at all speeds I believe is different than the driveline vibration a number of us experience at 65-74mph.

Just heard from my service manager this morning that "Factory Rep was here yesterday and nothing new on concern as of now."

That’s disappointing. Are they even looking into it, or they just don’t know , and won’t really dig deeper until this is a larger problem, you think ?

I really do not know. Why cannot Kia simply let the service department folks know - and then they can pass the information on. Instead, the owner of a Kia is left wondering, like you, if Kia will simply let it go. Someone on this thread said that Kia will get it fixed. I would like to see evidence of this. I would like to hear from Kia manufacturing that they are aware and working on it. Without that, my opinion of Kia support is bottoming out.

Maybe loop @Kia Rocks!! into the discussion - maybe he or she can't speak to the issue as an employee - but worth trying.

I sure hope this gets figured out soon. I am 90% sure I want Telluride but I can not stand a vehicle that vibrates. Wil be watching this three very closely.
