So after a couple of nice long drives (10+ hours RT), here are my observations about my 27 SXP-X.
The ride quality EASILY surpasses my 2019 SXP, which I raved about on this very forum some years ago. The driver convenience features made both trips a breeze. Driver seat massage felt great, specifically for me when I went to Lumbar, one of three different massage modes.
The radar cruise and self driving performed flawlessly but I had to get used to the auto lane change capability. When in full-on drive/cruise, if you give your turn signal a light tap to indicate a lane change, the car automatically and with intent changes lanes and self aligns with the new lane, basically hands free. The SXP-X does not drive hands-free but almost. You get warned if your hands leave the wheel for any more than about 5 seconds, and the steering column pupil-tracker holds you accountable to keeping your eyes forward.
Also getting used to the camera-based rear view mirror, which is a nice lux upgrade. However, it does crazy things to headlights of trailing vehicles as they approach. I’m thinking because of the difference in strobe frequency between the camera itself and the headlight LEDs.
The screen menu interaction is easy and friendly and I basically left it in CarPlay most of the time. The HUD is clear and is as full of content as you want to make it. I used the HUD a lot and it’s basically second nature now. I’m 6’1” with a long torso, and I appreciate the ability to adjust the HUD position so I could easily see it.
I received my share of complimentary comments at the various stops. “What is that?” “Awesome front grill!” And “That’s a gorgeous color!”
I drove almost every mile during those trips in ECO, one of the four drive modes, and turned about 24.5 MPG. Pretty pleased with that too.
One tip for those affected. Go to Vehicle Settings and set your disappearing door handles to deploy each time you put it in Park. Otherwise, people can’t just climb in when you swing by to pick them up with the engine running. They have to wait for you to fumble around to Unlock the vehicle.
