2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

I am wondering with all these tests and major component removals and reinstalls, and new parts and then more tests... who knows if there will be any other side effects that might manifest themselves down the road. I am not sure if I want the car even if it's fixed. I would demand a new one and throw down the LEMON LAW. Good luck guys.

OK - I have some news.... Some time ago, I had a dealership witness the problem and they called the Kia Techline. With the Telluride, Dealers are not supposed to do any work without talking to the Techline. The Techline told the dealer to pull a couple new ones off the truck and see if they also had the vibration - and they did! Here is where it gets strange - the Techline folks looked at the evidence of all three Tellurides having the vibration, so it must be normal and closed the case. I had thought that when they knew all three had vibration, they would start working on a solution.

So today I have my Telluride at a fresh dealer. They see the problem and called Techline and learned the above status. They also saw something strange with the rear axle on one side and sent a video to Techline. Not sure where this is going to go....

Just got my Telluride back. Engineer from Kia came out to help dealer. They ordered a new rear drive shaft but part is back ordered for 2 months. They rephased the original rear driveshaft for better balance and reinstalled it and told it is ok to drive it until the new shaft arrives in two months. Driving it home I tried various speeds between 65 and 75 which was the problem range. Vibration and noise is definitely reduced so I feel we are on the right path to fix my problem.

One thing I don’t understand is why the rear driveshaft would be the problem when cruising at freeway speeds. I thought the AWD system would be using mostly front-wheel drive (maybe even 100% front-wheel drive?) to move the vehicle.

I just purchased a Telluride LX AWD yesterday... No vibration in the test drive as the area the dealership is in had too much traffic. Took it on the interstate today, same exact vibration at 68-75mph as most have described here.

I'm away, so can't get to the dealer until Thursday of next week.

I guess this is what we get for buying a brand new model in the first year of production!

Also, my steering wheel is off to the left. If I center it, it goes right. The vehicle doesn't pull if I'm going straight and let go of the wheel.

Well that sucks. I’ve decided I am not going buy my AWD Telluride until this problem is resolved. I am hoping for a recall, that way I will know Kia has seriously addressed this problem.

Apparently Palisade owners are having the same issue. So that rules out manufacturing issues specific to the GA plant.

I saw my tire pressure was 48-50 from the dealer. Adjusted to 35psi... No change in the vibration, as noted by other posters here.

Update: I called Cornerstone Kia in Elk River MN on Cincy Tech's info. Service manager confirmed the issue and a driveshaft has been ordered. She would not give me further details. She said any Kia service department can access Kia's nationwide techline and research what other dealers have found.

I passed on the info to my dealer so they can research this prior to my appointment this Thursday morning.

I called ALM Kia in Atlanta on Albert Ruiz's info. I was put on hold for 20 minutes and gave up. I did forward his case # to my dealer.

FYI. My build date is July 8, 2019, Georgia plant.

Has anybody tied my troubleshooting step above to see if it's drivetrain related? If I had one I would try it but I don't yet.

Tried it today - most vibration was right at 69-70 mph or approximately 1800-1900 rpm (not easy to read on gauge) - downshift one gear - then decreased rpm back to 1800-1900 rpm - not easy to hold at that number and people weren’t really happy at my drop in speed - but I did feel vibration just harder to keep it in that rpm zone in the lower gear as it was more sensitive to gas pedal pressure. Hope others try your idea - but it does point to drive train

Update... I must say I am very happy with my second Kia service manager. He not only listens to what I have learned through this forum - he follows through while following Kia Techline. He really wants to get to the bottom of this.

So..... they took out the rear drive shaft and there was no vibration. They have sent the drive shaft to a shop in town to balance it and when they get it back will install and test. One shop said that they would not be able to balance the shaft because it was too new, but they did find a shop across town that said they would be able to do it.

Meanwhile, the dealer got a new Telluride in and tested it and found the same vibration. I think this is more widespread that we think. It is not the GA plant nor the build date, since it happens with Palisade as well.

Since the Telluride is brand new, I am told that all dealers must go through Kia Techline in order to perform any repairs. Perhaps Kia Techline is the "up the chain" we all hope for. Of course, some service managers may be better in understanding your complaint and then identifying and expressing the issue to the Techline.
