• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Congrats!. Looks great.

Starting mine tomorrow after Amazon delivers my coating kit. All the prep is done. I made sure the dealer didn't touch the paint on the car which meant I just needed to deionize, rince and then rub down with Kleenstrip Prep All.

Do you mind if I ask how much they charged? And what does ceramic coating even do? Is it worth it?

Ceramic coating puts a shell over your clear coat without getting into too much technical detail. It can be super expensive if you have a pro do it. Most of the expense is prepping the car for the coating. The paint has to be thoroughly stripped of all contaminants, corrected of any swirls and scratches and then coated. The most cost effective way is for a brand new car to be coated. Best not to let the dealership PDI the paint. More often than not a kid does the PDI with inferior rags and swirls the paint. Cars that have been sitting on the lot for months will be pretty swirled. Much more noticeable on black cars. So the swirls in the clear coat will need to be polished out before coating.

On our Telluride I was very lucky. Dealer called on 9-26-19 that an SX arrived a month early. Came off the truck that day. I took it home that evening without them touching the paint. Built date was 9-11-19.

I used a deionizer on the car because I had a bottle laying around. Turns out that was probably unnecessary as it didn't change colors to indicate there was any metal contaminates on the car. Metal contaminates come from rail dust on the train ride and brake dust. Thoroughly dried the car with my blower and then wiped all paint, chrome, plastics and glass down with Kleen Strip Prep All.

Coated it today with a very affordable ceramic coating called Nano Bond I bought on Amazon for $25. One bottle did everything except the roof and wheels. I'm going to do the water test before I buy another bottle. I'm a little skeptical about the cheap price of the coating I bought but the verified Amazon reviews were great. It applied and flash dried the same as the more expensive ceramic coating I had applied to a previous vehicle.

Here is a Youtube video showing a 4 month water test a guy did on the ceramic coating I used on our Telluride.

If the Nano Bond doesn't hold up I will go back to a more expensive coating.
