Should I buy a Telluride?

So, I’ve been looking very seriously at purchasing a Telluride. I’ve test driven them and have settled in an EX. it’s perfect for my family and our needs. But, after researching it more I am terrified of what I’m finding. I need a very reliable vehicle for my family of 5 and work needs. I’ve always owned Toyota’s and never had any trouble. I drive 20K plus a year. I don’t know if this is all rantings of a few disgruntled or something real. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

- already have a recall
- Bad transmissions - needing replacement soon after purchase
- stalling vehicles
-Needing to replace the windshield multiple times for seemingly minor rock hits
- Electrical issues with the autotainment.
-seats getting stuck
-Seat covers coming off
-Door handles popping off
- and other snail things

I have similar feelings. Owned 2 highlanders with very little trouble. I was really considering the Telluride, getting cold feet after reading through this forum.

I had 3 Toyota’s and all of them were not entirely reliable. If you are concerned was the reliability of the KT I would suggest you look elsewhere. They are new models so the first year will likely have problems.
 
I've driven a SX AWD 5000 miles for 4.5 month. No issues so far. The recall was nothing to worry.
It's my second Kia for 11 years. No major issues with the first one.

We have an SXP - just under 2500 miles so way too premature to talk about reliability but so far so good. The car has been fantastic for our family of 5. I think there is always some concern with a first year model but Kia has come a long way in terms of reliability so I'm cautiously optimistic that everything should be okay in the long run.

You need to also keep in mind that I'm guessing 95%+ of owners are having no problems and love their Telluride but when owners do have issues they turn to forums like this and others for advice so for that reason you hear and read about it even thought its a very small percentage of owners who are actually experiencing these issues.

Is this your first forum experience?
Forums are where people go to discuss issues, not rave about how wonderful everything is.
I’ve experienced none of the above issues.
But if you want a Highlander, go get it. Great vehicle! I’ve owned two. Boring as all hell, but reliable.
 
You will find issues with cars on forums for any brand of vehicle. The wife went from a Pilot to the Telly and i have been a Honda, Acura, Toyota guy for decades. I definitely feel better buying the Kia over any German brand (i did own a GTI that I loved, but only had it for a year. Couldn't justify a 2nd vehicle) I'm anticipating that the KIA reliability will be on par with the Hondas and Toyotas. Will it be problem free for years and years? Maybe not, but most cars are not.
Buy it and enjoy it. It rides and looks way better than a Pilot, Highlander, Pathfinder.

We Have a Toyota store across the street from us which we own. The Highlander owners are lined up to get a Telluride. We had 3-4 right off the bat as trades. Highlander is the #1 competitor per KIA. They actually brought a 19 Highlander when they did our training. I know 2020 is all new for highlander but from what I've seen it looks too similar to the 19.

Go look at JD power or consumer reports for reliability ratings. They aren't perfect, but they are far, far better than a forum. Between the warranty and high initial quality, I think you should be fine with the telluride. But if you want an assured 200k worry-free miles, go buy a 4runner. Getting the latest-and-greatest technology means a new model that it isn't all worked out yet. Toyota's are reliable not because of higher quality, but because they don't update things very often. There is a reason the 4runner or lexus GX are the most reliable - they haven't changed in 10 years.
