If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Telluride competitors you've crossed off your list

🤖 AI Summary

Mazda CX9 - one of the best driving 3-rows on the mainstream market but it has the smallest interior (reminds me of the Infiniti FX SUV - great performance and looks but minimal space/utility).

It's nice that the CX9 has been out so long (buying a first year vehicle like the Telluride is a minus), but the interior space of a 3 row SUV is pretty crucial. I also prefer normally aspired engines which hurts the CX9 (maybe if I lived at elevation in Colorado it might be worthwhile to change that preference given the losses at altitude from NA engines).

Explorer, Palisade.

I like the Telluride more than the Palisade because of both the interior and exterior, and they are the same car otherwise.

Explorer, that portrait orientation screen kills me! And top trim (fully loaded) will come out to well over 50k, whereas Telluride is under 47k! With eventual discounts, hopefully we can find a fully loaded telluride (SX with prestige) at close to 40k!

I have a soft spot for the Volvo XC90 but don't need the space. Really like the Sorento but wished the interior was a bit more premium. The Telluride just ups KIA's interior game even more and I'm looking forward to see what the next one brings.

Sorrento - same mpg as Telluride
Highlander - too heavy despite good, best mpg in class, no Android Auto
Ascent - do not have faith in reliability of turbo 4s and performance of cvt s.
Palisade - do not enjoy the Hyundai design language - assymetrycal and swoopy. Have enjoyed Kia design ever since Audi's, Peter Schreyer became director of design for Kia. His design influence is all over Telluride.

Other vehicles considered but eliminated:
2019 Explorer-To match the Telluride would require the Platinum level at much higher cost. The second row seating is over the wheels so makes it difficult to enter for my 90 year old mom.

2019 Audi Q7 very, very nice but $80K price tag with features available on Telluride for $47

Hyundai Pallisade - I like the blue, but don't like the center console or dash screen over the Telluride.
Hyundai Santa Fe - I like it, little too small.
Toyota Highlander - Wife has one, but Toyota needs to up its game with Android Auto and better dash designs.
Jeep Grand Cherokee - Owned one in the past, but FCA needs to update the interiors a bit.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio - love it, but FCA needs to improve their infotainment
Nissan/Infiniti - Maybe if they ever catch up.
Honda/Accura - they're ok, but a little bland.
Ford/Lincoln - Never
Chevy/GMC - Never
Subaru - Meh
Mazda CX9 - almost, but that huge center console!

Believe it or not, I'm really not cross-shopping anything - so I had nothing to cross off my list. I'm confident the Telluride will have everything I need for a better price than anything on the market. I also LOVE the interior and exterior. The only thing I wish the Telluride had but doesn't - is more height. I love the ride height of the body on frame full-size SUVs - but I have a strong feeling gas prices will go up anyway - rendering something like that a bad choice in the not too distant future...

Hi All! I’ve been lurking here for a few days, but just registered. I’m planning to buy an SUV within the next year, and none within the realm of affordability to me have truly impressed me... until now. Both the Telluride and Hyundai Palisade look extremely impressive to me, both inside and out. I think the Telluride wins on the outside, and the Palisade wins on the inside. I’ve considered some other SUVs, but all seem to pale in comparison to the Telluride/Palisade...

Honda Pilot - My first choice of the “others”. I like the outside look, but the interior instrumentation is horribly dated, even after the 2019 update. Also, there is apparently a design flaw that limits the size of the seat belts. I couldn’t get it to fit! (And I’ve owned two Accords without ever having a seat belt problem.)

Toyota Highlander - It still looks decent, but is getting pretty dated. The 2020 is coming, but I’m not expecting a revolution. It can get pretty expensive with all options.

Volkswagen Atlas - I like this one. It’s big, and the digital instrument panel is purdy. But, Volkswagens seem to be far less reliable than most other makes, thieves love them, and I’m still unsure of whether I can move past their “cheating” and “history”.

Mazda CX-9 - This one looks good too, but I’m unsure of interior comfort. And I’m still not sold on Turbo 4s.

Ford/GM - No way, although the 2020 Explorer looks like a step in the right direction. They need to knock $5,000 off the top trims though.

Acura MDX - I always thought the MDX was hideous on the outside, and the interior is now horribly dated. It’s too small on the inside, and way to expensive for what you get.

Lexus RX - I loved the original late 90s RX300. But the current model is too swoopy and feminine for me.

Mercedes GLE/GLS/BMW X5 - Sure! I especially like the X5. Any of y’all got some buckets of money I can have?

So, here I am. As long as the Telluride/Palisade are comfortable for me, there’s a 99% one will be my next car. I’m actually leaning toward the Palisade, as it looks like it’s going to offer some higher-end options over the Telluride, most importantly, to me, anyway, a 12 speaker premium audio system, and a fully digital instrument cluster. It’s kind of a bummer that the Telluride won’t have these options.

Still, the Telluride is beautiful. I can’t wait to take one for a test drive.

I like the boxy SUV look that most automakers had in the 90's up to late 00's. Vehicles like the Escalade and Suburban still have this boxy look it is a luxury look.

The Explorer for example not so much.

The Merecedes G-Class always has been a dream car of mine and it seems it looks the same every year but every year not in my price point 😫

The Kia Telluride hits ALL the hot buttons for me!

My wife and I looked at just about every SUV out there under $50K. My list of possibilities were.

Toyota Highlander - Undisputed reliability, but very dated, overpriced and has a useless 3rd row.

VW Atlas - My favorite before seeing and driving the Telluride and the closest spec wise. Will not buy a VW though as I don't trust the reliability.

Subaru Ascent - Overall a very nice vehicle but I'm not a fan of it being a 4 cyl turbo and CVT.

Infiniti QX60 - 2018 models are attractively priced. The vehicle rides great but overall is dated. The CVT is not for me and the steering is extremely loose. The combination made it a no go.

Mazda CX-9 - Love this vehicle! Drives great, has a ton of torque, a ton of tech, and a great interior. It seriously lacks space though. The leg room in all 3 rows is terrible and that's a deal breaker for me.

Everything else I looked at either lacked in the space department or just did not drive well.

After seeing and driving the Telluride, we're sold. It checks all the boxes. Looks, space, luxury, tech, price... Now, the only thing left to decide is when to buy. We drove the EX but want to buy the SX with AWD.

Currently considering the Honda Passport(dont like the dull look of the pilot), Subaru Ascent(surprisingly soft luxury like ride), VW Atlas(reliability is 1/5 on Consumer Reports), and the Kia telluride. Really like the sportiness of the Passport and the ride quality of Subaru. Atlas has awesome size. Telluride seems to have the looks and size and warranty. Ascent and Passport dont have much in incentives and rebates to not wait and see the telluride.

Trading in my ‘14 Explorer on Telluride. Ordered one 2 weeks ago. Obviously crossed off a new Explorer, XC90, CX-9, Pilot, Q7, etc. Pretty much all the mid size SUV’s in this class. Telluride has it all for me, I’m all in.

Tech features that matter to me:
Wireless charging
Heads up display
Adaptive cruise
Good center screen tech
Heated seats and steering wheel
CarPlay
At least 5000 pound towing

The telluride is the first vehicle I’ve see outside of Range Rover that has all these. And it’s about half the price of range rovers. It’s remarkable how much they put in this car. It also looks rugged, similar to grand Cherokee, which I like.

So I’ve crossed everything else off.

And there is so much more it has.... Simply Amazing!

Think it looks alot like the range rover at half the cost and from what I've read kia's reliability is worlds above Range Rover

It came down to the Telluride, Palisade, Atlas, and Explorer for us. We drove pretty much every 3-row crossover under $55k out there it seemed.

Top 2 were the Telluride and Atlas for us. Loved the Atlas looks (I like the R-line style better than Telluride actually), but I couldn’t get past the reliability concerns. Plus, it’s my wife’s car and she fell in love with the Moss Telluride from the first time she saw it. I honestly couldn’t find a bad thing about it, so here we are.

I was considering the new Lincoln Aviator Reserve, but the fully loaded Telluride was nearly 30K less and just as nice with all the same advanced tech and more overall room. After 2k miles on the meter.....I am 100% confident I made the right decision!

May sound crazy, but we started looking at a Yukon Denali. I couldn't fit in the 3rd row without my knees in my chest (we have very tall kids, so scratch that). Then tried the XL version, and fit ok but looking at $75-80k easy with what we want. Next stop drove to see the Telly, and we fit great and got everything and more for much less $. Could have had an SX-P for 2k over a few days later at that dealer, but wanted a different color and some other options.

I have an Infiniti JX35 (now called QX60) which is also the Pathfinder, it's not in the same league. 3rd row for us is now too small for my 10 year old on any length beyond an hour or so.

Never considered most of the other "competition" or even others higher end due to being too small (Highlander, Pilot, Explorer, Audi Q7, X5, etc.)

Drove an Expedition, it's a contender. Should we end up waiting aimlessly forever for our SX-P to come in, we likely will go that route or the Navigator. May also look at the MB GLS as well should that happen.
