Lane Keeping Assist Software Upgradable?

I know the Telluride is not a Tesla, but it seems like Tesla is always putting out software upgrades for it's vehicles.

Let say Kia finds out that there is a software bug, that everytime it sees an Orange Cone it thinks it's a pedestrian and pulls a hard right into the ditch. Is there going to be capability to correct this? Or am I stuck with this theoretical glitch for the life of the vehicle?

These systems are software based, so yes, it would theoretically be upgrade-able. Will KIA upgrade over the air like TESLA? No, you would most likely have to take it to a dealer for any kinds of software/firmware upgrades. For example, there is a TSB for an infotainment system upgrade, but instead of updating by over the air programming (OAP) you have to take it to the dealer for the upgrade.

That being said, since your KT is always connected (unless you didn't activate UVO) to their severs, they may/may not be pushing undisclosed "updates"......who knows? They certainly pull all sorts of data from your system without you knowing. The same LTE connection can be used to support OAP if their system supports upgrades this way.

I think that's one of the things that makes TESLA truly innovative. Maybe it was borne out of necessity since they don't have an extensive dealer network (or for that matter any at all). The traditional manufacturers are still lagging in this area, but I think they took 1 step towards becoming more like TESLA in the distant future.

The updates are needed to get better models of roads. Like the lane identification is still lame in areas with snow season. The human knows how to still drive but the models are still lacking.

This is where updates are needed. Right now you buy and get stuck in the year of the vehicle. Itd be like buying a pc and stuck with the versions of software the programs had.

If you look at comma ai openpilot, you buy some hardware and they do updates all the time. Doesn't use stock camera though, yet.

Well....I have been an Iphone lover for many years and for many years the "updates" have been ongoing and endless AND at times, annoying! I DO want necessary updates to the electronics in our cars but Tesla is a magnificent "road computer" and I really don't want to be in an ongoing constant update process such as the Tesla. Just my opinion........
