• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... New to the forum here. After reading many posts and using the tools available (Vin Lookup & Production Charts) which are very useful, I realized the SX P/T Black Cooper with Dune Brown interior that I ordered is a low production build (looks like only one day a week Vin being assigned for this model). Dealer said 6 months at least! So I have been using the Vin Lookup to find orders coming to my area and calling the dealers to see if it is a allocation or customer build. They are always sold and one dealer told me he has a list of names waiting for the next available regardless of trim. Does anyone know the process for how KIA determines allocations vs customer builds in the production schedule?

No one really knows!!! Many topics built around this very subject.

It's been discussed at length in a different thread. Bottom line, order and wait 6 months (choose the highest volume dealer that will take your order) or just keep calling. @Mweiland can make you a deal on a used model with this spec - if you are interested in that and he still has it.

Btw I have the black copper dune combo. I found it using the production sheet. Called every dealer in a 3 hour drive near me. Finally found one an hour away with msrp that was not someone’s order. Miracles do happen ! It was due in Jan 16 came in a week early. I called them 2 weeks before due to them gave a 2500 deposit. It was mine a week later!

Same thing happened to me. It's a little extra legwork to find the right dealers and make sure it has comparable options to what you want, but I am starting to think this is the fastest way to get a vehicle.

Was this a prestige or not? I have a feeling finding a prestige that is not a sold order would be even harder.

Yes it's the prestige package. The dealer I ordered from is small and only had a few Telly in the last month. So I am trying to be proactive with the help of VIN Lookup and finding one somewhere in my area (Raleigh NC) or state...that has not been taken.

Thanks JW_TX for the thread...I understand now

Sorry, I was asking @Stacyg . I was wondering if she was able to find an unallocated SXP.

Black copper is only prestige so it is the least produced of any. Like I said miracles do happen. 🤣

Actually, it's an SX only color. It can be had without prestige. But, yes, that means it's one of the least produced colors

I thought dune could only be added with prestige?

Agreed. I started calling dealers too and found my SXP the same way. I put down a deposit last Saturday and already see a VIN with my specs in the telluride lookup. Should be here within 2-3 weeks. I can't think of any reason to order one, because none of the dealers I spoke with were confident in when new orders would be filled. Good luck!

How do the dealers know what is coming before the VIN is produced?

Great question. The dealers place orders with Kia. Each has visibility into what they have on order and is allocated. The VIN is created later as part of manufacturing. I called a lot of dealers and asked the question: "What Telluride SXs do you have on order that haven't been sold yet and are you selling them at MSRP?" It took perhaps 8-9 calls, but I found one that was available. Hopefully this helps.

I did a similar tactic and was told by the dealer that they have an EX coming at end of March but they don’t have a VIN yet. I put a deposit down but I wonder when a VIN might be created for a vehicle supposedly due to arrive in about a month from now. I keep checking the vin lookup spreadsheet to see if there’s one going to my dealer that fits the specs.

My VIN was generated about 1 month before the ETA. They said the cars usually arrive 1-2 weeks early. My should be here any day. Good luck.

Same thing here. My dealer told me "mine" is coming on 3/21. I hope my VIN is created any day now according to the other post. 🤞
