Back in December I went to Kia Turnersville here in South Jersey. Specifically told the salesman that I’m strictly there for a test drive as I was testing out another car- the Chevy Traverse. We test drove the SX (Not P, which is what I want) and loved it. I left there and gave the salesman my info and said to keep me up to date if a black SX-P shows up.. Well today I got an email stating that a black SX-P was just delivered yesterday. I asked to see a sticker and if there was still market adjustment. This was his reply (photo)

I’m cheap but know a good deal. A SX-P at MSRP is a good deal, I’m cool with that. My 2011 GMC Terrain isn’t going to die tomorrow so I’m in no rush to buy if the price isn’t right. I’ll wait till I can buy one at MSRP or hopefully less. But charging extra for the brake light? And shouldn’t the protection crap be optional because I’m sure it’s just store brand materials. Anyone else see anything like this?

Never trust someone who can't spell brake......

There are multiple threads on the markups. They are common. The only thing the salesman is correct about is that the vehicle will sell quickly - likely with a markup.

You can hold out and find one at MSRP (including factory options) or you can try to negotiate with that dealership, but not all dealerships are willing to negotiate. Never hurts to ask - you can get the sticker using the VIN Lookup tool and search for that dealership. Search for that tool on the forum.

All the best.

They have a white SX-P that’s been on the lot for about a month which I thought was odd.. I guess this is why. I’ll see what I can do. Slim pickings for dealerships here in SJ. One person I know went out to Springfield, PA - anyone else have a good dealer in the area?

They’re using all the tricks (adjusted market value, $1000 wax jobs, dubious value extra warranties, unwanted/overpriced dealer-installed options) to extract maximum profit from the deal. They want to get you on-site to work the deal by getting some investment from you, then go hard core on negotiations. I suspect you can negotiate much of this crap away, but you’re unlikely to get anywhere near MSRP; that’s not how they operate.

All this is pretty common on a high demand car, but to varying degrees. No car is important enough to me to play these games. In a couple years, Tellurides will be selling for invoice but, of course, there will be some new kids on the block that everyone will think are better cars. That’s why the dealers go for the high profit when the can; it’s feast and famine.

Try Liberty Kia in Ramsey NJ. I drove 2 hours to get my EXP. Jeff the GM held it for me. He called when the vehicle arrived and I literally picked it up 2 days later. Easy and smooth process. We did a lot of the paperwork via email and phone calls.

Conspicuously absent from your post is any mention of what you paid or any dealer shenanigans like paint/fabric/window etching.

Inquiring minds want to know.

It's the market. As Mick Jagger said, "Time is on my side" and he also said "I can't get no satisfaction"

Yes MSRP, read his post history. He already told his story in an earlier post. No need for him to detail it again. Click on his name to see his post history.

Yep, they would not even give me any information over email. It was all about come to the dealership and then we can talk about a price. No thanks. PASS!

Yes MSRP- thanks King. No shenanigans at all. Since then, I’ve upgraded the Telly with about $500 of accessories while paying below OEM prices. All purchased from amazon- cross bar, splash guards, floor mats, 3rd row mat, cargo net, license plate frame, gravity grey touch up pen and some ahem LUXURY car seat covers. After reading another thread, I have the badges in my cart now. Hopefully, I’m not missing any other accessories.

Nice. Great deal. I’m going to do wheel insert badges. On those car seat covers, make sure they’re SAB compliant. SAB is side air bag for those not part of the jet set.

Just heard back from the salesman, this paint and fabric is optional on every other Kia model and trim level except the SX Telluride.. 🙄 I’ll go back to waiting. Hopefully the 2021 will have remote start on the fob. I use it daily and would hate to pay for the app.

I’ve experienced this with almost every dealer in the Delaware Valley. Try Martin Kia in Newark Delaware. Or Murray Kia in Norristown Pa.
