• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Noticed that Costco has a very affordable full synthetic oil under the Kirkland banner. Unable to determine whether it meets Kia's specs. Does anyone have more info?

News to me. I’ve never seen or heard of Kirkland branded oil until your post.

BITOG is the place for this question.

You need to figure out which oil standard Hyundai/Kia specify for the 3.8. I couldn't find it but for the 3.3 in the Stinger, they specify this one.

If the Kirkland meets that and it's the right viscosity and synthetic, it's likely good. I can't say about this case, but Costco usually picks very good suppliers. Their single malt scotch is usually Macallan!

The owners manual states to use 5w30 with an ACEA A5 or above rating. It also states that if ACEA A5 oil is not available in your country you are able to use API service SL, IL SAC, GF-3, or ACEA A3. According to the Costco website the oil meets the following specs.

Applications
For use in gasoline, flex-fuel or gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles requiring SAE 5W-30 API SN PLUS, SN, SL and ILSAC GF-5, GF-4 or previous standards. Approved for use in all GM gasoline engines requiring dexos1™ Gen 2 5W-30.

Howdy,
Just finished a oil change Telluride SX Prestige with the Costco Kirkland Signature 5w-30 full synthetic oil.
The oil is 5w-30 SN Plus, GF-5, GF-4 etc... so it meets spec and better.

2 x 5qt containers in the box, priced really good.

Yes, and that Kirkland vodka is amazing!

When they bake the chickens the grease is converted to motor oil. That's why when you look at the bottle it says 10W-Furry 🐔

I am thinking it would be more like 10W-Feathers but I see you working 😜

I was actually thinking about buying the Kirkland AWD Selluride with the Caesar Chicken Salad package.
It’s just like the Telluride, but half the price...and it comes with a free pizza!

Project farms just tested this oil. It is competitive with Amazon Basics. Which is sourced from the same company that makes mobile 1. If I remember right.

No.

This company makes Super Tech (Walmart house oil), amazon basics oil and the Kirkland referenced here. They also have their own brand Mag1.

Not being a motor oil expert, where does it say on the Kirkland oil packaging that it is ACEA A5?

It does not say that.

The oil does, however, meet alternate specs listed in the manual other than ACEA A5. ACEA is more of an “European spec”, so I can see why a stateside brand/product may not have that certification.

I actually think that this would be a great option for the DIYers doing the severe maintenance intervals (3500 miles) for their oil changes.

Considering it meets Kia specs, and the cost savings compared to the name brands.

I've always used Mobil 1. I just wait until it's on sale to get a more reasonable price.
