• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Is my dealer screwing with me?

I’ve been reading this forum for a while trying to understand if I am being taken advantage of. I placed my order for a SX Prestige AWD (Snow White exterior/gray interior) on October 17th, 2019. It’s April 29th. Tomorrow will mark 28 weeks (7 months) of waiting. (I was told at the time I placed my order the wait would be 3-6 months). I have contacted my salesperson once per month to ask for updates but get a lot of “thanks for your patience” and “it’ll be worth the wait” and no actual concrete details at all. Am I naive to think I should just keep being patient? My current car is dying (needs $4k of work. Luckily I’m not driving much these days because of the stay at home mandate in Illinois.) Those of you with insight, please advise me. (*I appreciate your kindness to a newbie on this forum. I tried to use the Kia lookup app that I saw posted but didn’t see how I could look up my vehicle if I still don’t even have a VIN assigned.)

Which dealership did you order from? I'm in Illinois as well. Some dealers get more allocation per month and that can affect wait times. Did you get anything like a screenshot of the order when you placed it?

You won't be able to see anything about your vehicle on the look up tool if no VIN was assigned yet.

Hopefully someone from the dealers here can chime in, but 7 months with no VIN or update (on order being picked up, build date) seems a bit crazy.

I'm basically in the same boat. Ordered back in December. I've received no details from my dealer whatsoever. I've asked several times, but no answers. I figure it's best just to continue remaining patient, while the factory gets back up and running...

My guess is if you have an order number your dealer "probably" isn't screwing with you. If you don't have an order number, it is probably a different story... I ordered also mine back on Oct 22 and was also given the standard 4-6 month quote. Back on Feb 1 was given notice that that my delivery date was on or about 22 Apr. I got excited and then the factory shut down. My dealer has been at least honest in saying they have no idea when its getting here now and will know more once the factory reopens. I would be nice if KIA would give those of us who have had extended wait periods a good faith discount. $500 would be a nice starting point. I'm not holding my breath

The Elgin one (Napleton Elgin Kia)

The Elgin Napleton Kia location. (I went there because they are the only dealership in the state that accepts the Costco program and even though the discount was a measly $500, I knew it would mean I didn’t have to haggle over price, which was important to me because this was at the time the Telliride started winning accolades and other local dealers started charging thousands over MSRP to place orders.) Maybe I should have gone to a dealership with more allocations? (I had never heard of such a system until I started reading this forum.). Maybe they put the Costco people at the back of the line and my order will never get filled? I did not get a screenshot of the order, but I did visit the dealership in person about 2 months ago to see if an in-person meeting would get me more answers and my salesman did pull out my file and showed me the date they placed my order (2 days after I ordered it) and some other paperwork that made it seem legit and like I am “in the pipeline” of orders.

They were closed in March for 2 weeks... is that correct? Or are they still closed?

They were basically closed all of April. Allocations were cancelled for April as well so essentially everything was put on pause for an entire month. You should ask your salesman how many allocations they get per month and what number in line you are. They should be able to tell you. Costco membership shouldn't have any effect on your "place in line".
