Wife and daughter ok in accident with Telluride

So my wife was coming back from her dad's house when some idiot turned left in front of her. She T-boned him pretty good. Steering wheel and knee airbags deployed. Everyone thankfully is fine. I think (I hope) the car is totaled. I don't want this kind of damage repaired.

Glad everyone is fine. Looks like the passenger compartment held up well - which is the most you could ever hope for a car in a wreck.

That said - it looks like you will be in a tough spot even if they total it (which I agree is the best solution here - I would hate driving a car put back together with this amount of damage). If you get your SX Prestige totaled - how do you replace it? The waiting list is 6-8 months and I doubt the insurance company would give you a rental for that long. I guess you try to find one somewhere else in the country and pay a premium if you have to. Tough spot.

Keep us posted. I am starting month five of my wait which will probably drag on until September. My biggest fear right now is that my wife would be in a wreck in her 2011 Honda Odyssey which would surely be totaled and we would have to buy something else rather than wait for our Telluride to come in.

yes, exactly what happened. As a motorcyclist this has always been my nightmare. Glad she was in a car, not on a bike.

i hear ya...bad thing about this is that it will drag down the resale value and will prob not be the same after repairs. pity for a brand new car. if they do end up totaling it which doesn't seem likely...might want to look into a lightly used or new 19 vw atlas...bought a nice used 18 and its on par with telluride sx-p in terms of features and didn't have to take the initial depreciation hit. 18 and 19 atlas models also come with 6yr 72k mi warranty.

Maybe it will be 75% of the depreciated value? plus generic parts probably don't exist for the car yet, so OEM parts may add up to 75% easy?

That does suck that because this car is so hard to get, you likely wont be able to find another without a huge markup or long wait. Glad to hear the SXP kept your family safe. As it is my family hauler as well.

Glad that your family was unhurt.
If they do not total the car, demand they pay diminished value because there is so much damage. My daughter was hit from behind and the whole back of the car was destroyed. They thought a bit over $7,500 to fix unless something big showed up. I demanded diminished value because the whole trunk and floor would have to be replaced.They totaled the car after I asked that.

That car is done. Can't you hold out to have them find a car similarly optioned and miles wise? I think they have location services to help with that. Otherwise at a month old they should give you full replacement cost (if not, hope you had gap insurance).

Update. Car is totaled. There's actually some structural damage to the roof panel that I didn't notice the day it happened. I'm probably going to lose between $5k and $10k. I get reimbursed for actual value including depreciation. I lose taxes I paid and NY does not recognize diminished value.

Wife wants another Telluride even though it's my daily vehicle. Hoping I can find a cancelled order or something sitting on a lot because of the COVID scare. She's trying to bribe me by telling me I can buy a Jeep or pickup truck (Something used that I cant lose too much on) while we wait for it. Not sure I'm keen on that.

Seems like quite a bit to loose on a New vehicle. I have an EX black /black with bench coming not spoken for. Best I can do for now. Good Luck!
