If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... VIN Lookup Site

I saw some questions regarding the site in other posts and I just wanted to clear up what I know about the VIN lookup website as I know it. I am hosting the website currently but did not write the website. @foresterh is the brains behind the operation here.

A few weeks ago, Kia blocked @foresterh 's original home to the website for scraping too often. Between he and I, we moved the website and got it back up and running. There was a gap of about 2 weeks where it wasn't running. Fear not, once the website was up and running, the missing VINs got filled from the last time @foresterh was able to do so. So YES, it is caught up.

Now does it have the current list of ALL Telluride's created? NO
Since there are quite a few missing VIN numbers there is a lot to catch up on. I don't want to have the scraper fill in the missing VINs too quickly if at all. First it would put the site back in the microscope of too frequent heavy scraping. We don't want/need that at all. Plus the vast majority of those VINs have already been delivered so there is little to no value in understanding the status of a delivered vehicle at this point. It MAY be filled in but at this point, unlikely.

So TLDR so far; if you do not see your VIN, it's not entered yet. Sit tight and check once a day at a maximum.

The tool currently scrapes the Kia VINs once a day. This is for many reasons but mostly that we don't want to tick off our friends at Kia! I'm hoping that even if this is too much they can reach out this time and ask that it be metered more instead of throwing a ban on the website. So again, checking the site multiple times a day may only help your mental health or curiosity. It is NOT pulling data more than once a day.

If you have any questions regarding the website, feel free to leave them. Either myself or @foresterh can hopefully answer it.

Please note that there was a misconfiguration in the scraping that it was only pulling in 100 per day for a while now. I've upped that to pull in more to catch up.

Note that this does not mean that production has gone up today, it's just catching up.

Picked up on that a few days ago. I thought it might be intentional to avoid being shut down, so I wasn't going to say anything. Thanks for the clarification. As of about 2 weeks ago, my dealer told me that my SX-P is still a 2020, but no VIN yet and time is running out.

Thanks to everyone who pointed out that the VIN Lookup Site was not scraping in 2021's. I have fixed this and the 2021's should be scarped in and I will scrape in 2021s going forward.

Thank you Druke

Thank You, You are Da Man. Looking at the results of your program is an addiction to some of us waiting and waiting and waiting for our orders to come to the top.

I do not see any 2021 vehicles when I access the current report. Reportedly there are 2021 VINs that have been created. Is there a different link to pull up the 2021s or will they be mixed with 2020?

They are mixed in if you are viewing the default by serial # sorting. They start about ~2000 serial numbers back from today. I'm working on adding a filter for the model year.

I had to reload the page since I had the tab open already. Great to see 2021 SX-Ps being created! The latest batch even shows an SX-P created today for my dealer. Keep 'em coming!

filter to sx and you'll see a bunch of them

is there secret sauce to be able to see the window sticker when clicking VIN? getting permission denied.

Nope - I just clicked on one, new window popped up no problem.

@krypted - that happens from time to time it seems, I've definitely seen it too - but it was working for me earlier today. I'm wondering if they check the referrer? @DruKe - I wonder if adding:

rel="noopener noreferrer" to the links to the window stickers would prevent them from seeing that people were opening them from failcat.com?

Thank you so much. It's been my favorite activity for months to monitor the VIN tool for the possibility of my SX ever being produced, LOL.

Added - probably a good idea to hide the referrer anyway! :)

interesting. I can't get a single window sticker to load. Tried hitting URL directly, CURL, etc. wonder why I'm getting access denied.

Well if you are trying to hit kia.com directly and not having any success not sure what to tell you.

@krypted it's possible they have a rate limit in effect for any request not coming from an approved domain or something similar, try again tomorrow morning and it'll probably work - was working for me earlier, but I'm not seeing the same thing on any of the new entries listed now out there. As an example, this gives me access denied currently, but there's not much anyone can do since we dont' work in Kia's IT 😀 https://www.kia.com/us/services/en/windowsticker/load/5XYP5DHC6MG096416

are you behind a VPN or a transparent proxy with TOR? Kias site blocks those sometimes. Just wait it out and try in a few hours. I’ve seen the site limit the requests it returns.
