• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 update 1 Available

As an FYI for others I was able to successfully do the quick update today. I just put the car in accessory mode and let it go. No issues, system stayed awake and the quick update took about 30 mins. Now I can hide the dumb wasted screen space when in android auto with something else. The fact that this was deployed with the map update does give me hope that we might see true wide screen AA at some point. The new weather tile and compass tiles are much nicer as well.

@bruesjoh04,
Thanks for this tip:
The update does add split screen for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay... but it isn’t on by default. You need to enable it in settings and device connections.

Once updated, I'm able to use the blank part of the screen for other displays:

Ordered the update on 6/23, It shipped the same day 2-day FedEx. Arrived today 6/26 (FedEx's fault it was delayed a day).
Quick update went smoothly, took a touch over 25 minutes to install and "reload data", whatever that meant.

The nature sounds seem quirky, but this AA split screen is a nice touch!

I HATE the nature sounds. I even went through the usb files to see if I could find them in the star files (to delete them), but no luck after 10 min if poking around.

Everything else seems great, like the compass as well.

Are you saying you can’t figure out how to disable the sounds?

Is it the default media playing every time you start your car?

I've had it off, turned on the car, and then it starts playing before my bluetooth connects. Or if you hit the media button, sometimes the nature sounds play before bluetooth. (And I do have bluetooth first in the list)

That is expected that there is a delay for the bluetooth pairing.

I get what you mean though when Media audio is playing it will auto play whatever is the first Media source available on the list regardless of order.

Maybe a temporary solution would be to lower the volume all they way when you turn off the car and then turn it back up after your music starts. Or use the USB for AA or ACP.

Also, does your bluetooth audio play automatically when you get in the car? I always have to start the app and press play on my iPhone.

I did the Version 14 map update two days ago and i have all the modes checked on the screen below including Sounds of Nature but i have no problems. The update worked great for me so far with the AA split screen which is great now and the Weather app works great since pulling information thru UVO connected service now instead of HD radio signals which i didn't have around me.

When i get in the car, Sounds of Nature doesn't start for me at all as my Sirius XM radio comes on at Channel 39 Hair Nation where it stays. I only get Bluetooth music or Sounds of Nature when i specifically choose them from the infotainment system or the metal buttons on dash. Not sure why it would automatically start with Sounds of Nature as my phone connects to Bluetooth when i get in the car but my only sound is Sirius XM Hair Nation lol. I will play around with it some today and see if i can find out anything.

Couple ideas:

1. Volume is independent for each media type. Turn down the nature sounds all the way to 0. When Bluetooth connects it should then use the last set Bluetooth volume level for that mode.

2. Switch to radio and then Bluetooth. When you disconnect Bluetooth it should switch to radio.
Then next time when you get in it should play radio instead until your Bluetooth connects.

I put in USB drive when i started car to go home from work and it took about 30 minutes to update system on Quick update. Everything with the update went well as the Android Auto with split screen works great and the new weather app is fantastic as it pulls weather from UVO connection. Navigation maps look better and more crisper on the images and the text on the maps is much clearer. The update Version 14 has worked well for me so far. It kept all my radio station presets and Sirius XM titles of stations and everything has been functioning great so far for me.

I think android auto had the setting to resume media. It did resume if I had google play music going, turned the car off, then turned it back on later.

Good idea on setting volume to 0 on nature, will try that.

It will work. Just got back from a quick ride and tried it.

Did the update today, had a couple hour drive to my dad's so figure i'd kick it off after tanking, surprised how quick it went, was probably 30 mins tops. split AA probably only reason i even wanted this update, although they mentioned they added vehicle speed to the map display but don't see it, even the sample image doesn't have it. also noticed in my setup screen icons where moved over top left was just an empty space like it was removed. see how this goes.

Think this is awesome since it seems before only updates through the service department was possible, while everyone else offered downloads like Subaru, Ford, although Land Rover charged around $200 for a usb only option on some models. The Asterisk probably due to updates being offered only free for x years of ownership, Subaru's Starlink is 3 years, also probably disclaimer that data charges could apply based on your ISP provider and data plan/service.

I would expect Kia map upgrades to be available on their website and to be free. My wife and I have had both the 2018 Kia Sportage SX purchased new and I had a 2016 Kia Sorento SXL-T before our Telluride. I purchased my vehicle used in September of 2018. While it did not have an "Over The Air" (OTA) navigation upgrade option, at no time were we charged for a maps or head end UVO upgrade at our local dealership. The 2016 Sorento is the model year that shipped with a compatible screen mirroring tech but without Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. I was able to do the upgrade myself via a USB drive based on the instructions and firmware image that Kia provided on their previous UVO web site.

Many manufacturers, including GM with their OnStar service, have tried to make in vehicle navigation and telematics a revenue center for their companies. With the advent of smart phones like the original Verizon Droid phone and Google Maps Navigation the market prices for this functionality is effectively zero-dollars. BMW found this out the hard way after being consistently dinged in customer surveys and the auto press for charging annually for Apple CarPlay. Eventually BMW had to relent and recognize customers expect this functionality.

Kia has been introducing its Phase II UVO Connected Car in European and Indian markets this summer. This includes "last mile" walking directions for actually navigating to a building or site outside of a vehicle with their upcoming map upgrades. But since Google, Apple and others already provide this too, I don't see why any customers is going to pay for it.

The upgrade is free, all you pay for is the cost for the usb drive and shipping, and probably few bucks for an intern to run robocopy on a hub. Some reason the 2020 Kia lineup doesn't have the download option, supposedly back end issue or software portal issue. I think Kia NA just does't have it's act together, so if you look up the 2021 Seltos it does have a download option, but if you get the USB like many of us have you clearly see the case jacket state "Seltos 2020", so curious if the "2021 Seltos" download would work on a Telluride unless that's a misprint.

I been thinking about the OTA option, UVO runs 4G LTE which can easily handle a 60GB download but it's probably Kia's infrastructure can't and Verizon not letting up on it's data cap even for network partners. GM, AUDI, and JLR for example use OTA via 4G LTE but it's probably much smaller packages to avoid caps. I'd love to pick a Kia engineer over UVO but here's my guess on how it's backend goes, Kia didn't reserve backend memory for update cache, so OTA wouldn't work no where to download it, so when running the update, what really happens is the USB is utilized as backup cache, your settings and preferences get dumped on there, then the OS on your car gets wiped, then a brand new OS is loaded in place and using your backup dump it rebuilds your old settings so it seems seamless,
I think in reality Kia's methodology for updates was tailored to service visits, avoid owners from doing it themselves and risk issues, it's also the cheapest.

although they mentioned they added vehicle speed to the map display but don't see it
You need to enable this in the map/navigation settings. It is not on by default. You can see it in action in my post #162 in this same thread.

I just found it a few minutes ago, had to move the car decided to play around a bit and stumbled on it. Also realized settings has a search feature.

I did the update yesterday. After doing so my Sirius channel presets were reordered to numerical order by channel number and the functionality to manually reorder them was removed. I tried deleting all of them and re-adding, but they just get put back in numerical order.

Anyone else seeing this?

There should be a reorder presets button. maybe the update removed this option?
