Hi! Very new to all of this but I’ve be watching the Telluride for well over a year now. I’m ready to order and had an Ohio dealership say they could order for me 1k below MSRP. My question for you all is about the sales manager telling me that the “Kia que” is currently closed to put orders in? She said they closed to finish out the 2020 models and she expects it to open by the end of July. She then told me they have had several preorders and has never witnessed an order taking more than 3 months. She did say the SX typically takes the longest which is what I want. I know there’s really no concrete answers on any aspect of the tellurides right now so I guess I’m just asking if this all seems typical to you all and if I should pull the trigger and trust this information. Thanks in advance!

Yes, sounds about right. Search the Forum for KFOS. Number of good threads about the ordering process which is not open to dealers yet for 2021 Model.

Its typical. Read the threads in this specific forum for more precise info. 3 months is very optimistic tho unless that dealership doesn't sell any Tellurides. Also see if that under msrp quote is if you finance. KIA offers $1000 off with slightly higher rates if you finance thru them. That may not be the case when you take delivery of your ordered vehicle. At that time those offers will apply unless you get something in writing at time of order.

Thanks for the response! I will be checking that out.

Mind if I ask which dealer in OH? Would love to get in line behind you!

Depending on where in Ohio you are and what you are looking for, you might be better off going through Kia of Muncie. On an SX Prestige, you will probably save more than 1K on it with their Costco discount. I'm from the Cinci area and was about an hour and a half drive for us, Dayton would be even closer to them.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Great info everyone, thanks!! I just started looking at SUVs in May and zeroed in on the Telluride very quickly. I just read "J Pack' post with great interest. An Albany, NY dealer told me the other day that they had a list of 2021 Tellurides that KIA allocated to them that they can sell. These are supposedly scheduled to be delivered to them in August and September. I chose one from the list and their "sales specialist" was working on "securing" the vehicle for me. I got a text later that day from "sales specialist" saying the one I chose was sold. He said I could still order a 2021 Telluride with a $1000 deposit. I was curious about this dealer since I had spoken to at least 10 NY KIA dealers and all told me that they couldn't order 2021s yet. Is this dealer special or trying to pull something?

Syd, KIA is transitioning to 2021s right now by completing 2020 sold customer and dealer allocated orders and converting them to 2021 models. Once these vehicles are built they will produce the 2021 models. Looks like this is already happening with KIA allocating the new Nightfall editions to some dealers. Expect those on dealer lots in the next few weeks.
Dealers can still take your order so you get a place in line but they will not be entered into the KIA factory ordering system KFOS. This is expected to open up the middle of July and those vehicles should start to arrive at dealers end of summer. So if you can't get in on one of their pre-allocated un-sold vehicles they can still order you one, it'll just take some more time depending on how many sold customer orders are in front of yours that still need to be entered into KFOS and built. Every dealer is different as well, some get more allocations every month than others. KIA will be making more SX trims this year to keep up with demand as well.

2021 Vehicle production is already under way. Some from sold orders and some for dealer inventory. Most folks agree that it finally looks like KFOS is going to open up in July - which means the rest of us that have been in line waiting for a production slot will finally get an ETA here in the coming weeks.

Good morning Syn, Smithtown Kia has an SX-P Moss/Dune coming in the middle on July that's if you willing to pay their 6k markup.

We just bought a Telluride EX in California- like yesterday. Very hard to come by. I called Cartelligent- a car buying company here. They said that b/c of scarcity the Tellurides are going between 3-10K over MSRP. This is exactly what we found in our research - across the country/. Part of it is due to COVID delays and part of it is due to the Telluride being so wildly popular for the price point, safety, good driving, etc. We have 3 adult sized kids now and needed a functional back set. So I refuse to buy another minivan so here we are!! Once our kids are grown we are getting the Stingray. So much fun and so amazing to drive.
I called all over CA and Nevada to find a Telluride. The Cartelligent people said there were 10 total in the state last week. Buying out of state and having the car shipped would save maybe $500 so not really worth the hassle.
CA just got its new Kia allocation set to arrive in September. I heard this from dealers all over the state- many of whom already have pre-orders in place for what they expect.
Dealers said the same thing happened with the Stingray and now 3 or so years out from its release Kia is offering as much of $8k off that car. So patience may pay a lot if you don't need a car right now.

I just got a 2021 SX Prestige Black Edition last week with currently delivery date for July 31st. I got this one because dealer was already allocated it and no one grabbed it yet. I called maybe 50 dealerships and the story was the same, 6 month wait on new orders. Some dealers had 3 month waits, and some (not in major cities) had a bunch coming in that weren't spoken for yet.

The fastest way to get a SXP (instead of waiting for new order) is to use failcat.com and call the dealer to see if its spoken for.

When I first started looking at the Tellurides in March the first 2 dealerships I went to were charging 5k over MSRP. I refused to pay that and found 2 dealerships within an hour from me that didn’t charge over MSRP . These dealers also have sold more thus get more allocated to them. Now the first 2 dealers that were charging over MSRP state if the car isn’t on the lot for immediate sale and needs to be ordered thus you have to wait then they will not charge over MSRP. If buyers stop going to the dealers who charge over MSRP they will stop.

I am a lurking member here. I am also in Ohio. And I have not found anyone even at MSRP. @J_pack, what dealer are you working with?

Wow its 6k now? They were 3k over when I was looking in September and they were dealer at the time with the lowest markup. Made it an easy choice to start looking out of state.

failcat.com isn't working today...anyone have an update?

Did you have to pay over MSRP?

Did you have to pay over MSRP?
Yup. Only because it was one of the first "black edition" and my wife said she will lose her sanity if she continues to drive her minivan another day. I normally would never pay ADM, but given the choice, Pay ADM and get one now or pay MSRP and wait 6-8 months for an SXP - my wife was happy to pay the ADM. Still cheaper than the Range Rover Sport she was going to buy, so I still come out $50k ahead :)
